The most recent event was today, when someone who has been double Hyundai repo’d in the past 6 months posted their new car(what they called project). It’s a base model pre-facelift current gen Fusion, which given their situation, should have been a $1000 car until they can afford to not get repo’d again. Normally, I would let someone be happy with their new car, but.... Then they started talking about the supremacy of the 2.5 Duratec over both of the Ecoboosts, especially when it came time for THEM TO TURBO IT. Stock for stock it isn’t really a contest, but when it comes to modding, holy shit that’s a bad opinion. I let them know that.

Am I an asshole?

So the thing is that, that is the same architecture as the 2.0 and 2.3, if built would take boost well with more displacement than the current eco boosts.

Yeah, but the EB stock takes boost pretty well, and there are headifold cars with 700whp.

Also, the 1.6 doesn’t have a headifold, and is good for around 400whp reliably with no internal mods.

Yup... Sell a $2,500 car to someone with a double-digit credit score for 35% financing and a $3,000 down payment. 2 months later they get to repo the car, detail it and put it back out on the lot and let history repeat!

The exhaust outlet is much smaller than the new manifold for my gtx turbo. they take a lot of work to get it to flow, trust me...my car makes 24.5 psi and hold 22 to redline and the way it sits would likely need lots of head work to get to 700 let alone the bottom end work it’d need. Ford racing even sells a head for the 2.0 with individual exhaust runners for a log manifold...I think you can tune the exhaust pulse better.

Also, on track that increased thermal efficiency turns into increased oil and water temps because you are essentially water fooling the exhaust manifold.

The 700whp was a stock block, with upgraded rod pistons. The block died just past that though.
