Seeing how those things are priced, it’s really part of those “I have money, but don’t want to let people know” cars. Because apart from car people, and JDM car people on top of that, nobody will believe what you paid for it

Very true. It has joined the ranks of cars like the Peugeot 205 GTi, which have transitioned from affordable classics to unattainable, despite being little French tin boxes.

Depends, here in France, even casuals know what a GTI is worth, same thing for the 2CV. I think investment tipsters are to be blamed
