If you remember a while back on old TopGear they showed a modern take on the Aston Martin DB5 called the Speedback GT by a company called David Brown. It just happened that the guy making the new car was called David Brown and nothing to do with the original Aston Martin David Brown the ‘DB’ is named after.

The Speedback GT comes in at £495,000 +VAT (20% in the U.K).

If that’s too rich for your pockets.

They as of April this year also do a Mini Remastered which is £75,000 + tax

Makes you wonder what classic cars will be added to the trend of uber high-end restomods: so far we have the E-Type, 911, and Mini, what’s next? My guess would be 60's/70's British roadsters, I’m sure there’s plenty of old geezers out there with fond memories of their old Triumphs and TVR’s and a whole lot of money.

Well you got Beachams in New Zealand who put modern Jaguar interiors and drivetrains into old Mk2s, E-Types and XK150s.

Not quite the same but bringing old classics back to life in a different way.

You can already get an MGB: http://www.evo.co.uk/reviews/14857/frontline-developments-mgb-roadster-review-and-pictures

And an Alfa: https://www.alfaholics.com/gta-r/gta-r-completed-builds/

I’m actually quite surprised nobody’s giving the TR6 the treatment yet, though.

As cool as the idea of a modernized Jag is, that interior, especially the steering wheel, seems so out of place in an old car like that. Wonder if they just do running gear swap, I’d hate to throw out something like this:

Can’t believe I forgot about Alfaholics, of all the bespoke carmakers they’ve gotta be my favorite. The TR6 was the exact car I had in mind, maybe a big Healey as well:

Bumper deletes and tasteful fender flares like Eagle does on the Speedster and I bet that’d look lovely.

I think it’s an all or nothing thing.

They do restore cars to original condition though.

I saw a Speedback GT at Bicester Heritage on Sunday. I then made a snarky comment about it on social media. The owner of said car tracked me down and ‘corrected’ me. oops...

I know about Beachams and I am always curious if they do any LHD/American market conversion and how it would work importing it here.

They do, do LHD and Australia and New Zealand where you can’t register a new LHD vehicle, so cars have to be converted from LHD to RHD prior to sale. They would be very knowledgeable in conversions.

About $135 grand (in Canuckistani dollars) is quite the price to pay for a Mini. But it’s so cool that I can’t bring myself to care. I especially love the badge. More national flags should be in car badges. The only other example I can think of is the (eventful) Frontenac.

It’s expensive, but you’d still entertain the idea a lot long that you should if you had the cash for one.
