I’m pretty sure the doohickey in the bottom picture is supposed to be in the end of the thingamabob in the top picture to hold the whatchamacalit on the right side of the second picture in place in the left.

Well on the plus side. If you’ve stripped it down this far you should just be a few parts and reassembly away from a working engine!
