Alright oppo, lets set the scene: You have a cool 60 Gs just burning a hole in your pocket, and the monotony of life is getting to you. You’ve got a fever. And the only prescription is MORE POWER. You decide you need a weekend warrior. Scratch that; you need a weekend wrecker . Which would you buy, and why? (Outside the box answers acceptable too.)
This hypothetical question has been on my mind awhile, oppo.
Personally, I think I’d take the GT350; the glorious noise of a flat-plane crank V8 screaming all the way to a 8,250 RPM redline, the magnetic suspension, the standard recaros...its all too much to pass up.

Mustang. All the way, every day of the week. The sound, the feel, the look.
I want the M2 so badly, but I want a big ass V8 more.

GT350 all day every day, and that’s coming from a die hard Chevy guy.
But given a choice between a GT350 and ZL1. I’d take the Camaro.

That Camaro is incredible, and a base ZL1 would price similar to a loaded GT350. What specifically makes the ZL1 more appealing to you?

GT350 for me.

I love both, and would have to drive both. Normally I’d take a BMW over a Ford any day, but the GT350 is something special.

GT350. Outside the box, i’d go with a supercharged early NSX.

Muuuuuch faster is the big thing. Straight line and around a track. I’m not too in love with the way the zl1 looks though and I love the way the gt350 looks so it’s tough. That’s why I would probably go c6z or c7 or something like that.

I don’t think there’s a wrong answer here - I love both cars. I prefer the driving position/visibility of the M2, and I also like the fact that it looks less racer-ish (sorry, I like to blend in, not stick out).
But if I really had to choose (and I hate the fact that I’m NOT facing this choice right now), I could not say no to the Voodoo - I’ve heard it, and it is glorious. But I don’t want any damn stripes on the car, and I’d probably debadge it, too.

I love BMW. I would take the GT350.
The Ford would be more user friendly imo. If something breaks, it won’t make you cry as much as if something went wrong on the M2. I think both would be fun, but with the GT350 you can have fun without being as nervous about it.

GT350. It’s a gorgeous brute of a car. I’m pretty sure my penis would grow 2 inches behind the wheel of that car.

The m2. Because the gt350 has to much horsepower to daily with. The m2 has the perfect amount of horsepower, perfect handling, and is a joy to drive with the manual

Yeah the M2 is definitely more livable day to day. Its a really nice overall package and could even be a really good DD.

Define “livable”. You can actually put people or kids in the back of the mustang.

You’re right. It depends on your circumstances. I was looking at it from a DINK commuter, road-tripper, grocery-getter perspective. If you have kids or regularly transport others, the mustang probably has the edge. However I haven’t heard great things about the ride quality in the GT350, so passengers may take a pass on riding again if offered.

GT350. Prettier, better longterm parts availability, easier to fix, ect ect. Basically I can’t stand BMW period. I will admit that the cars are some of if not the best handling and comfortable cars made. They just don’t last for any length of time. + hate the kidney grilles.
Out side the box, (and what I will be working towards):
The ultimate third car. simultaneously: looks like a classic car, faster than anything else, better handling, convertible, impractical as hell, satisfies need for attention.

Neither. I’d get a Camaro SS 1LE. For $48K out the door, you get what you need (Magneride, silly sticky tires, Recaros, 6 speed stick, PDR) and nothing you don’t. Spend the rest of the money on putting gas in it (You’ll need a lot) and on track days, tires, and brake pads.
You also end up with the fantastic GM Alpha platform with a proper engine (that you can’t get in an ATS-V). I prefer the Alpha platform cars to the Mustang, although it’s very very close.
If I was going to spend an extra $12,000 (!) over what I am spending on the Camaro, I’d be in a Corvette Grand Sport, which is still quicker than a GT350R.
Or a Camaro ZL1.

Well I would take a ZL1 over the GT350R any day in general “muscle car” battle, but I would much prefer the F-Type SVR convertible with a manual (which they don’t make stupidly) over the both of them.

While I haven’t driven one, if it has the magnetic suspension I presume it ha a “comfort” mode that might not be bad.

Torque delivery and throttle modulation are better in the Mustang. Plus the tall gearing will help prevent it from becoming too hairy in low traction conditions. M2 rides pretty fucking stiff man.

It gets reasonably good mpg because it’s a straight six and has a turbo. Incredibly light steering. Don’t know if that’s a good thing. It can swallow most of your gear with ease. And you can road trip it and not worry about a ricer trying to race you. The m2 also doesn’t suffer from the horsepower wars and doesn’t get the traction light to shine every time you touch the gas

GT350 (R, if possible, but add the creature comforts back in. The suspension and wheels are worth it).
The roar of earth-rending noises emanating from that quadruplet of exhaust pipes more than makes up for losing the finesse and features that the M2345678 has. (wait, is it M2 or M235i?)
I’d want mine painted Guard from the factory though. The blue is great, but green is better.

I like the Jaaaaaaaaaaaag, but the zl1 is fugly.
Also, I wouldn’t look good in the required mullet that comes in the glove box.
Also also, I like seeing out of my vehicles more than not.

I like the look of the ZL1, a lot more than the standard Camaro. And more than the Mustang. Plus they aren’t that bad to see out of and don’t eat crowds of people, but yes I think even the auto Jag would be better.

Faster in literally every way. The Alpha platform takes a big steamer on the chest of the Ford S550 platform, handles better, rides better, looks way better.

Also I don’t like the Mustang’s butt. The designers did 3/4ths of the body and said “Screw this, were going drinking”

Excepting the reverse light (which is practical because they can use the same one worldwide) I like the back of the Mustang better than the front, regardless of trim level. Especially when you can catch the light just-so and see how much of the grille is unnecessary.

Eh, you have to work for the power in the Mustang, you don’t in the M2. IIRC, they are pretty equal when it comes to quickness. The M2 just looks swollen and the GT350 looks amazing.
