Kinja'd!!!

Should a turn signal be required when merging onto a one way street, seeing as how there’s only one possible direction you can be turning? Discuss amongst yourselves.

YES! Always signal intention. No discussion needed

Turn signal? What is this? Was it part of premium package 3?

should signaling be required when taking a turn from a left (or from a right) turn only lane?

If we simply always signal when we turn, there’s no need for debate on when it’s appropriate. Also, people be cray and signaling the WRONG way on a one-way can serve a good indication that someone is about to cause problems.

No but signaling is always good practice. And more likely to keep bored cops away.

Yes, because you need to signal your intentions to the drivers behind you.

Yes. Always indicate. Otherwise bad habits form.

If you drive a BMW, Audi or Mercedes, you are exempt from indicating at all times.

Another good topic. There’s lots of talk here about signalling intent, but these are situations where (if the rules of the road are being followed) there can be only one intent.

Eh, just use it. Whether its totally necessary or not, it doesn’t hurt.

Turn signal is there for you to inform people where you are going, if there is only one way to go, a turn signal is unnecessary.

How about when making a U-turn? I was a passenger whilst my dad was driving and he signaled to get into the left turn lane and left his signal on for the U-turn. Me? I’d turn off the signal since people making a right turn might assume it was safe for them to turn since I was signalling left.

Yes. Other drivers at the intersection can’t see the road markings under your car and may not know if it is indeed a turn lane or not.

Yes, because even though your path doesn’t conflict with other cars, you still need to communicate your intentions to cyclists and pedestrians.

A signal should be used if you intend to change direction or lane and there are other road users or pedestrians.

If your in a left or right turn only lane then signals aren’t required but are courtesy to other road users.

I’ve seen morons drivers use turn only lanes to go straight, enter driveways, make u-turns.... so yeah. Signal all the time. Especially when you plan to do the opposite of the lane’s intentions.

If you’re going to turn your steering wheel far enough to be able to tip the stalk with your finger as you pass it, then you might as well turn it on and make a habit of it.
