I’m assuming the only point of this is to say you have a carbon fiber compressor housing. How drastic are the weight savings going to be to justify that?

Not very. Probably more suitable for high-budget “every ounce counts” racing applications.

this seems utterly pointless even for racing applications. you’re talking about saving what, a pound? i would think the inherent issues of using CF instead of aluminum come at a larger cost than that, e.g., the difficulty of building within the tolerance you need on a racing-quality compressor housing. i would also think that differing thickness of gelcoating on the inside of the housing would make the whole assembly prone to cracking... just seems unnecessary.

Exactly. The hot side is not made of cast iron like most turbos either. I mean it looks to be made of titanium or magnesium from the description. The turbine itself is probably titanium as well in order to keep tolerance with the carbon compressor housing. It’s a tremendous piece of kit if it works as advertised. I guess they are made for a Wankel. Ultra lightweight makes a whole lot of sense now.

Is it to save on heat transfer? Not sure how CF transfers heat, but betting it’s a worse conductor than aluminum? Like others have said weight doesn’t seem to be that much a factor.

This is a very bad idea. The coefficient of thermal expansion between aluminum and carbon is going to make very shitty things happen.
