I just did something I haven’t done since my wedding - I rented a tuxedo. For those not in the know, it’s tuxedo season down here in Lousiana. Between the proms, sweetheart dances, and the formal balls leading up to Mardis Gras, tuxedo rental is a booming business.
The place I went to was filled with young boys getting prepared for their first formal, a few college guys getting ready for a Mardis Gras ball, and a groom getting ready to make a serious commitment with the support of his best man. When the sales lady asked what sort of event I was attending, I said, “I’m going to the prom!” One of the young guys didn’t miss a beat, asking, “Will this be your Junior or Senior prom?” “Senior, of course! Can’t you see the gray in my beard?”
That was the best part of the whole process. The rest of it was focused on what sizes I would need in order to cover up the 50 lbs I gained since getting married. :(

It’s odd down here. So far this year, we’ve dropped below freezing twice. Today it was in the mid-70s.

I actually have purchased two tuxes in my life! Now that I’ve gotten older (and fatter), I don’t even want to go to black tie events any more.

I’ve never owned a tux. I have enough clothing that I don’t wear frequently enough to justify the expense. Even though the cost of renting one would go a long way toward buying one, it wouldn’t work out if I keep getting fatter. Just like the freshman 15, the 5 lb/yr creep is a real thing. I think there’s also a 40 lb increase when you get married. It’s hard to tell how that one is apportioned with the weight gain associated with having a baby (yeah, the husband gains weight too - it’s all the late-night runs for ice cream or hamburgers). I can’t separate the two since our first child came 14 months after we got married.
