Not super high IBU, fairly citrusy but still well-balanced. From a brewery called Superflux, previously known as Machine Ales. If any of you find yourselves in Vancouver, and like IPAs, definitely give this one a try.

Hate IPAs. But that’s a really cool can!

Have you ever tried Ale Smith’s IPA? I’m not a huge IPA guy, but it is one of my favorites.

I haven’t seen anything from that brewery up here, but I’ll keep an eye out for them when I’m at stores with American craft beers

Looked for a month and just missed them leaving Dogwood. Last week I heard it was all over and that they’re out of Strathcona now.

Have you had both? What’s the difference between them? Your description sounds eerily similar to Colour and Shape.

6.8% drinks like a 5.2%.

Nose : Hoppy with a slight tropical fruit. IPA.

Initial Taste: Hop and a little more hop. Then rich tropical fruit. Lotsa body.

Finish: Light tropical fruit. Almost zero astringency and very, very light. Next to no aftertaste.

Wait you heard what’s all over and what about Strathcona?

I have not had Colour and Shape yet, I’ve been meaning too. There’s only one store near me that stocks Superflux, and even then it can be inconsistent. I’ll be there soon hoping to pick up the new Brassneck/Fieldhouse collab, and maybe Superflux things will be there too.

But yeah that definitely sounds similar to Happyness, although not so much the tropical fruit, more citrus and still lots of body

Four Winds-Ontario. Saw it, passed. Now I kinda wish I would of picked it up.

Off Field House (‘til late spring anyway. Maybe they’re just a light type of brewery). Dumped one (Salted Porter, I think...). Heard “meh” on their Anniversary Wild.

Andina? You been?

Yeah that was a solid beer, complex and tasty.

Fair enough, they’re definitely stronger that light stuff. I do quite like the salted porter though. The anniversary wild was alright, nothing too special.

I haven’t yet been to Andina, but I’m planning to get there pretty soon.

And yup, High Point is my closest go-to when my liquor barn doesn’t have what I want.

Had a taste, wonderful. Yes, citrus and lacking the tropical fruits, but with a distinct malt near the finish compared to the Colour and Shape.

Strathcona has it on tap, although there’s just half a keg left. There’s a chance it will last the weekend. $10 for 12 oz. (yikes!). 4-packs are gone. They’re no longer brewing there. No word on where they’re going next.

On a related note, Bomber had a beer called Code last week. Sold out in a matter of days. Lots of raves from people in the industry. It was described to me as, “Like Superflux, but filtered. Despite being filtered, it still held it’s own”. Very affordable. Waiting on the next batch.

Yeah my girlfriend was at Strathcona trying to get cans of the new batch, but they were already sold out on the first day. I actually got a 6 pack of the Code, it’s good. I don’t love it, but that’s a good description. I think I just like unfiltered too much.

Also just picked up a 4 pack of Twin Sails Kool Koala, looking forward to trying that. My fridge is packed, there have been too many interesting things I didn’t want to pass up lately.
