1985 Toyota 4x4 22R 5-speed 70k on “rebuilt” engine for under $1000. Not running (needs igniter) with a clean title.
Obviously needs some patches where the rust was cut out. The exhaust needs a muffler, there is no carpet, or radio, passenger side mirror, leaf springs are flattened, etc. Tires are at the end of their life. This should keep me busy for a while. I don’t suggest buying vehicles from teenagers if you can help it haha.
I basically bought it so I don’t have to haul firewood inside my 4Runner anymore. Going to fix it as cheaply/diy as possible, and use it as my backwoods beater. Planning on putting new leafs in the back, moving the backs up front, and putting decent stock size (31 inch x 10.5) AT tires on.
ETA: Also, this is my 3rd 1985/86 Toyota, so I can take it apart and put it back together with more confidence than I have with more modern trucks.

How is this questionable? It’s a $1k ‘Yota pickup. What could possibly go wrong? Presumably the timing chain tensioner’s already been upgraded, so it’s set until the rust monster eats it.

You’re right. I just know I will want to start spending $$ to fix the cosmetic issues.

Just get a really cheap roll of vinyl and wrap it! Cover it, holes and all.

That one is quite nice. I really wanted this one, but it costs money:

‘85 was the last year for the straight axle front end. This is a coveted model year and a solid buy unless the frame is completely shot.
Edit: Didn’t read the post to realize you aready bought it and know these trucks. My bizzle.
