De Nooyer Chevrolet, Holland, Michigan. Some time in the 1940s? The dealership is still in business today. Anybody know what “bumping” means?

Sure. Shaping metal, fixing dents, etc. Panel bumping.
Like so:

Cool. Never heard the term before, but it certainly makes sense. Thanks.

While I don’t know for sure, I feel like ‘bumping’ could refer to a number of things. For some reason, with regards to this being painting/towing/repair, I feel like it could be bump starting a car (?). Early days of roadside assistance.

Crowmolly replied that it means, “Shaping metal, fixing dents, etc. Panel bumping.”

Funny to see that people with Dutch roots (likely, just going by the name) decided to set up shop in Holland Michigan.

I assume they have this playing in the shop while they’re “bumping and painting”.

I looked it up on the Google, and there is also a Zeeland, MI right next door. But I probably don’t have to tell you where Zeeland is.

I’m going to guess not. Pretty funky song, though.

Ah, that makes sense. That was my original though but then I kept thinking and decided on bump starting.

I was about to order a number of things from Eastwood
literally having to do with sheet metal working
- looks like I need to expand my order.

South of South Holland.

But Holland, MI was settled by dutch immigrants. So it makes sense that there are dutch families there.

Car in the window is a 41.
Looks like a war bonds themed poster in the window, too.

Haha neat! We’ve actually got two Zeelands here in the Netherlands, one is a province and the other is a small village about 10 km from my home town, and next to Volkel(known for the airforce base). I guess the town in Michigan is named after the province though.

In that case it makes sense. While I did expect such a thing, I was too lazy to google it.

Good catch on the War Bonds poster. I hadn’t noticed that.
