210 hp Yaris.
In a car just over 2,000 lbs.
Why is this not bigger news?!

It doesn’t look very good, but I’m all for a light car with decent power. Put a 6MT and some hydraulic power steering in it, and I’d drive the shit out of it.

I honestly couldn’t care less about what it looks like, as long as it has a turbo-3/4 cylinder engine, an LSD, independent suspension, and an automatic gearbox.

That’s fair enough, I would still like the option to row my own. When I had my M3 and 128i, even when I knew I was going to sit in traffic, I took my M3 despite the 128i being an auto.

To each their own, long as the clutch isn’t as heavy as the M3's I think it’d be alright. I will admit Atlanta traffic does suck in the M3, which is why when I picked my dad up at the airport, I took the 135is.

Well HondaBro, because it’s a ToyotaBro. All these so called “enthusiasts” and “jalops” have been brained washed by the automotive media and Top Gear for too long. Pre-programmed to have a childish hate for anything Toyota. I am slowly collecting enough evidence as the days go by to genuinely tie automotive stereotyping to actual racists behavior. A type of prejudice sub menu if you will.
Still I fight for ALL automotive brands and ALL automotive cultures. Give me ANY motorized vehicle and I shall hoon it with pride and glee.

A FiST is still a Fiesta. A FoST is still a Focus. A Civic Si or Type-R is still a Civic. Having the logic that just because a base platform is boring means we can’t have a fun performance version will keep us from getting cool cars like this!

I’d be seriously tempted if I (ever) need a more practical car. The 208 GTi was kinda too serious -felt more Golf GTI than pocket hatch- and the FiST’s interior ain’t my cup of tea (the new one might be better?). Though, honestly, I’m still hoping for a new Ignis Sport.
Or a Honda S1000.

It’s probably light enough where it probably doesn’t need it, but you’d be hard pressed to find a car for sale in the US today with out it. Even the Mitsubishi Mirage has power steering as standard.

But it is the hot hatch variant. If they make it more of a stripped out hot hatch than a premium it would work. Although they’ll probably go for premium, because no cares what Oppo thinks :(

They don’t care what the internet thinks because on the internet you can say whatever you’d like, “if they made this, I’d buy it”. There are very few cases of that being the case, I can think of us getting the 6MT in the E60 M5 being a case of BMW listening to the right people.

The previous one was okay-ish:
Had the Swift Sport as sole competitor, and that’s allegedly a riot to drive. The current field is a lot more competitive: FiST, 208 GTi, DS3, Ibiza Cupra, Clio RS, Polo GTI, ... Though if they get Gazoo involved, it might well beat them all.

It’ll be big news once there’s more details. 200 hp in a small car is a good start but good transmission options, LSD, brakes/suspension to match the power, AWD(?), price and weight staying low; will all determine how much we should all collectively go bonkers.

The Alfa Romeo 4C doesn’t have power steering.
Anyway, in a very light enthusiast car I can defitely do without power steering. Once you get used to it you won’t miss it.

A base Fiesta is still somewhat fun to drive. A base Yaris is not. The Fiesta has a far better chassis, from an enthusiast point of view. Same thing with the Focus, although that’s another segment.

Exactly, plus the front page is like: oh I can’t wait to buy this... IN TEN YEARS. FPer: GM should sell this car with a manual; drives 99 auto Civic. For cool used cars to exist, someone has to buy them new. I honestly came pretty close to saying fuck it and buying a new F82 M3, I’m glad I didn’t though.
