A late-’90s/early-00s Mazda 626 and my (extremely dirty) 2016 6.
Big changes. Just thought it was interesting to see my car and its older predecessor side-by-side.

Mazda is killing it with their design right now.

Just think about the fact that the amount of time between those cars is enough to have had a child and for that child to have had a child that’s now playing with cars.

Everyone always gives the Camry shit for being boring, but those 626s were rolling anesthesia. Especially the 4-cylinder.

An 18-year-old having a 2 or so year old means awfully young parents...ha.

I sold them back in the day and you’re not joking. The most exciting thing about it was the “swing” button on the dash that made the vents automatically slide side-to-side like a stand-up fan.

Uh, you mean Mazda started actually designing the exterior in the first place.

I became a jalop driving a 98 626 4cyl 5 speed. 30 mpg at 80 and super tossable on gravel roads. Lift off oversteer for days! And I changed my swing button to say “swag.”
I’d take one over a period Camry or Accord any day.

Normal in my area, most people are grandparents by the time they’re in their early 40s.

Yikes. I’m about to have my first (hopefully only) kid and I’m 27. Mom was 29 when she had me. No thanks to that early parenthood stuff.

I worked for a rental car company in the late 90's-early 2000's (rhymes with schmertz) and our fleet was flooded with 626's. I drove many of them and they were comfortable enough but just not fun in any way. They were all automatics, so the 5-speed probably helped you out there. But they were SOOOOOOOO SLOW with the auto. Having driven the Camry from the same period along with the Contour/Mystique, Malibu, Alero/Grand Am, Stratus/Cirrus/Sebring, Galant, Sonata, Leganza, Altima, and Legacy, the only cars of that group that I’d take the 626 instead of would probably be the Galant (hateful, hateful car) and the Leganza.
