Apologies for consecutive posts. Didn’t bother putting the blizzaks on so just rolling on DWS’s which are performing admirably. So much fun! I love snow!

Meanwhile my sport package w210 (wider wheels but not as wide as yours) gets stuck in the driveway. I haven’t chosen a decent all season for that car yet.

God, that thing must sound amazing. Part of me wishes I picked up a minty fresh 430 I saw for $2k. Then I walk outside and see my car.

Memories. I remember a big snow event here, and I decided to go to work the day after the big dump (we had around 12-16" at my place, impressive for western WA). I had no issues other than the hill leading to my workplace parking garage, where I got stuck. Some cat litter helped me out of that mess. The car was impressive on compact snow and ice, for something of its power with low profile tires.

Come to think of it, I have a pic I took from the office the following day - not many people there, and everyone parked outside as nobody could make it to the garage. One can tell this was little while ago, by the cars:

I was shocked by how good the Continental DWS tires are in the snow. The S600 is solid as a Range Rover in snow on the same tires.

Is it just me, or do those monoblocks look better against the snow?

Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 tires are my recommendation if you ever need to try something completely different. I’ll be running a set on my SL in the spring, replacing the previous V12 Evos that are getting too old to trust on long drives.

Too much salt around here to even think about taking the car out of the garage, but I do need to go start it....hopefully tomorrow morning.

Back when I worked for Infiniti we installed those all the time. I was never impressed to be honest.

My driveway is crazy steep and gets icy fast, but I still make it up, barely. It’s all in the tires and your throttle inputs.

It’s not bad, but I wouldn’t call it amazing. I have a 430 sport also and they are two completely different cars.

Interesting. On my SL, the Ventus V12 Evos have been the greatest all around tire I’ve ever had on it. The Pilot Super Sports were absolutely no-go if the roads were even a little damp. I’ve driven the SL is some serious torrential downpour, and even into a hurricane, not even a hint of problems from the Hankooks.

I agree. Which is saying something because I absolutely love how they look in general

Huh. Compared to super sports yeah I would imagine they’re awesome in wet. Pilot sport AS’s or Conti DWS’s are my favorites. They’re the best all seasons I’ve ever experienced. The michelins are so much more expensive though so I just run DWS’s. For the money, in my experience, they can’t be beat.

Between my Magnum and the two Mini’s we have, I don’t think I could ever go back to Continental. So many people have great things to say about them, but I just have bad experiences.

The Nittos I put on the Magnum have exceeded my expectations by a lot in the summer. The Hankooks have been good enough to make me come back for more.

Granted, both are running staggered setups, and are not the easiest cars to get tires for...

Good to know since my DWS’ haven’t seen snow yet

What issues have you had with continental? They tend to wear well, last a reasonable amount of time, and perform well in general in my experience. Sometimes they get little sidewall bubbles from potholes but that’s about it.

I don’t have any experience with nittos, but I’ve found hankooks to have poor traction and wear out quickly on the shoulders.

My 55 has 245/40R18 fonts and 275/35R18 rears, so I feel your pain.

I’d agree, was a Conti DWS convert a couple of cars ago and they’ve been absolutely stellar on my C55.

Are they good in the summer as well ?

They are THE tire for sport sedans in any climate. Year round performance assuming you don’t race it, which you shouldn’t do anyway.

But can I accelerate hard with them on without burning them off ?

I’ve never attempted a high power takeoff without traction control. But Continentals are strong tires so I assume they can handle a few launches.

No. I have not had the Exxon Valdez at redline.
