The tank is done. I decided to embrace the wabi-sabi aesthetic of this bike and rough up the paint. It gave it a sort of an old sign look. The emblems were from the junkyard. I cleaned it with Mop & Glo in order to keep the bare metal from getting surface rust (I’m in the middle of the Sonoran desert).

Yes they are. Especially the one I go to which I go to.

You have to be pretty oblivious to get bit by a rattler though. They make a lot of noise if you get too close. I forget the exact stat, but it is something like 80% of rattler bite victims 18-24 yo males. So, people fucking with them. Lotta scorpions too, but they aren’t that bad. I’ve been stung twice.

Thanks! I love the ingenuity amd scrapiness that went into building the old Honda bikes. There was a lot of passion put into their old stuff. My favorite bike of all time is the RC149. A 125cc 5 cylinder making 34 hp with a 20,500 RPM redline. Yes please.

Scorpions get a really bad rap, but their sting doesn’t hurt much more than a bee sting. It lasts longer and kinda feels like you got hit with a hammer for about an hour, but that’s it. They are pretty evil looking though.

I actually thought about doing that, but the previous owner took a grinder to the middle of the tank and it didn’t look nearly as clean as the rest of the metal (that’s shy I painted it). There’s also a cavity with nooks and cranies right behind the emblem which I wanted paint on to prevent unseen rust. I was going to do a white or red stripe through the logos, but I though it would look too busy.

There’s a 1966 Honda Cub at the junkyard I go to. The engine case is dented but the bike it rust free and complete. I might take another look at it today.
