Williams F1 tested one back in 1993, but it was immediately outlawed.

I support this. If it can’t be manual is rather a CVT. Id also like a hand control to adjust the ratio as I wish

F1 should be about the drivers not the tech. Let’s give them gated shifters instead of a CVT....becuase who wants to drive a car without a clutch.

Might as well remove the driver as well.

CVTs should be banned outright. The rest of the world should have followed the FIA’s example.

Not like flappy paddle gearboxes are demonstrative of that skill.
Stick or cvt.

See, I’m more interested in the Tech than the drivers. I’d honestly be kinda OK with driverless F1 cars assuming the regulations were opened up and everyone could do crazy weird technology and cool computers.

Nah. I vote to make F1 more like Mario Kart.

I just want some kind of Can-Am-esque open rules madness.

“The Olympics should allow heroin. That way, heroin can be strengthened and more normal people can use heroin.”
Why do you want to make the devil more appealing?

Then apply the tech to a form of racing no one cares about like NASCAR.

That would actually be really smart. It would add a lot more depth to fuel vs time strategy.

I mean if it had open tech regs, then maybe I would actually watch it.

Like I said before, I honestly wouldn’t be opposed to it. I’d be interested to see different algorithms optimise a car going around a race track, maybe even learning from recordings of pros.

It was what was writers of Jurassic park said was in the tranquilizer darts that they shot at the T-Rex. It’s 10,000 times more powerful than morphine.

so yes to cvt’s?

the racing would be dull then.

I’m almost thinking you could get that with a foot control that does the same thing as the accelerator, but very differently.
No input means minimum RPM, no throttle, no power delivered mode. This would actually require some automatic shifting to keep things right.
Increasing pedal input increases the amount of power sent to the drive wheels, first by increasing throttle opening but holding that minimum RPM. Once the throttle’s wide open (which would be like 10-25% pedal), the pedal changes behavior to a ratio selection mechanism - pushing down further DIRECTLY downshifts the CVT. Don’t push down too far, or you’ll overrev your engine.
