Much like the Corvair was a symbol of unsafe cars in the US, the VW TDI could be seen as a symbol of the car that killed diesel passenger cars globally.

If we see low-mileage survivors in 25-30 years, will they be unique/important enough to be worth anything.*

If they are, will a car that has not received the fix from VW be worth more?

*Not that anyone is going to tuck these away in a storage container or a barn for 30 years for this purpose, just if any somehow survive

Doubtful. nobody really cares about the GM cars with the 4.3/5.7 diesels, and those “killed diesel cars” too.

Naaa, no one will care.

A) There will be no 4 cylinder fix.
B) They are pretty plain-Jane otherwise, and everything but the underwhelming motor is well represented in other cars.

Only the TDI Cup edition of the jetta will be remembered. Rare + better equipment + an actual personality behind the wheel. The rest are too common and lacking in a real reason to keep outside of the motors. It’s not like the corvair where the model itself is killed. Just a trim level.

And seriously, the TDI cup is sweeeeeeeeeet.

If the Corvair is any indicator, then people won’t care about them. Corvairs are the cheapest classic cars you can buy. They aren’t worth anything even in good condition which is pretty unusual for old GM stuff. I sold my running for speed Corvair Monza for $1,200.
