Not sure if I’ll ever be able to part ways with her... I took the long way out of the parking garage today.

This story was posted exactly 3 days after I got mine, it’s pretty great.

Thanks. Nice timing, although it is a repost of the original. I must’ve felt a disturbance in the Force.

I think I’ll be keeping mine for quite some time. Right now the only thing I would consider replacing it with is a M2 (and it’s not worth the difference in price). I still wish I had held out for the right E90 though.

When did you get your e92, and what did you want in an e90?

I could see myself in an M2 one day, but probably not any sooner than 3-4 years from now. Will be interesting to get a test drive and feel the differences back to back.

Yes. Yes, I am.
Post rod bearing replacement, of course. Ha!

My cousin had a ‘76 2002 that he kept for nearly 40 years. Nothing prevents this ... like that guy that put more than a million miles on a Volvo P1800. It can happen.

Close to 100k now. Love the idea of letting my kids enjoy it one day. Why did he let it go?

Divorce, she got the house, no place to keep it. Wish he’d given it to his daughter, but it was not to be. Best-handling car I’ve ever driven.

2.5 years ago. I was looking for a white or gray on black, w/ DCT under 50k miles. I searched as far as California for 5 months but every one had a Fox Red or Cinnamon interior.

That was actually the same time I was looking for mine. I really wanted a white one with leather, idrive, and a 6MT. I guess I wasn’t paying attention to interior color but I felt like all of the white ones I saw were DCT, it’s possible that most of them had a red interior, but I can’t remember. I tried to buy a white one with a black interior in fall of 2013, but that one had a 6MT.

I haven’t driven one. According to the Everyday Driver guys it’s a great car, but lacks a little in steering feel compared to our cars and the 1M. It’s hardly any faster, but the size is intriguing after owning an E46.

Yeah, I think 75% of these cars are DCT, so I had that going for me. I guess Fox Red was popular at the time when these were new. I just remember how bad the red in the E46 interiors held up over time.

I watched ICON as well - thought it was well done and was honestly surprised that both of them chose the 1M and M2 over all other options. The two of them have fawned over our car in the past - I thought it had a very respectable showing. Did you watch their M2 vs Cayman GTS comparison?
I’d love to see EVO do the same comparison, with the proper E36 M3.

I did, will be interesting to see what Paul decides when his car is approaching production. If I had to place a wager, I bet he keeps the GTS. Who knows, he might be doing well enough at that time to keep them both!

An M2 and a GTS would be a hell of a pair... The noises the latter makes really speaks to my soul. Might have to be my first Porsche, when that day comes!

hahahaha... and then 30K a year to keep everything going. I swear, this has to be similar to that gen 7 series where everything is a nightmare and you barely see anymore.

I have my ideal spec M2 ready and nearly pulled the trigger on a deposit once or twice already. If the m coupe maintenance takes a steep uptick i’ll pull the trigger, however I think a part of me would miss the no compromise, pure sports car experience.

No seat time yet, poked around a few while they were parked for a Laguna Seca press day. I drive my wife’s 228i msport often, wondering how much of a step up it is. I can’t get over the high sedan seating and electric steering.
A warranty would be welcomed right about now though...

Well... http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a29245/bmw-2-series-comparison-test/
The EPS is really a question for me. If it just feels dead in my hands coming from my car, that might be a dealbreaker (although I know any newer sports car will come with the same change).
I can imagine you feel like you’re sitting in a truck in the 2-series - ha!

Great article, I saw it a while back and mentioned it to my wife. Unfortunately she still loses interest in any car after a year or two.
EPS is getting better every iteration I will admit, although 911s and my prior FRS seem to have done it better than BMWs entry level attempts. Prices on non-collector 1Ms have fallen a little bit which make it an attractive option as well.

I’ve driven an S2000 that belonged to a friend for just a few miles, and while the steering was incredibly quick and responsive, I don’t remember that it had much feel. Was almost like a video game. When he moved recently, he sold the S2000 in favor of keeping his NA Miata track car. I’m looking forward to sampling a recent 911 and the M2, but wonder if the hydraulic rack will steer me (no pun intended!) toward a 997/987 or an older BMW. My car is a pretty sweet spot between newer tech and older, mechanical systems (manual + hydraulic steering + NA). Hard combination to find in modern cars - even the new GT350 has EPS.
The 1M may be an attractive option, but to me it’s not... attractive. At least not from the front.

Spoiled you are! Where will you be sampling the 911 and M2 (curious since I need to get out and try those as well). Fully true on the 1M, I actually like the M2 looks better.
I have a few wild card choices up my sleeve but depreciation and personal savings need to work in my favor!

Clearly, but not as much as some! I’m probably not sampling any time soon, honestly, but when an M2 comes available for test drives at my dealer I’ll get a drive in one, and the next time I’m serious about getting another car I’ll definitely be taking a drive in both a 991 and 997. CarMax is always a good option for test drives - I never feel bad taking 30 minutes of someone’s time if there’s something interesting on the lot.
I actually prefer the bonkers rear fenders of the 1M to the M2's more sculpted bodywork, but that’s about it.
I’m the owner of a very small percentage in the company I work for, and we’re currently in a sales process with some of our assets. If it all goes through, it could be very good for me personally, and my feasible options when it comes to car ownership might expand greatly. =)

I would never find the one hahaha. My current gf wasn’t happy I was going over the limit. We spent 2 hours going under 50mph behind a truck instead of 80mph. After a tire blew out and almost hit us she said fine hahaha. I think a car that bad would have her running for the hills of Prius owners.
