Satire it may be, but I agree with the sentiment. Paterno knew what Sandusky was up to as far back as 1976. To me it’s at best tone-deaf, at worst just plain asshole-ish to continue to revere a man who protected a child abuser for decades.
but that’s America. Football is more important than everything else. Who cares if a couple dozen kids had their lives ruined? Who cares that players regularly rape women? Who cares that coaches and schools will cover up and interfere with investigations? The people who sit there and make excuses for this shit are utterly disgusting.
nothing shows how out of our goddamned minds we are about football then Texas. I saw first hand the enormous football stadium which was built for a high school. A FUCKING HIGH SCHOOL TEAM has this being built for them:
and those dumbfuck residents actually VOTED TO APPROVE IT.

The only thing satirical about this is that it wasn’t actually said out loud, but yeah, a lot of us do think there is something very wrong with the fans that continue to revere Paterno and his staff. I love football, but it still comes secondary to being a decent human being when others are being abused.

This is commercialised sports culture, where it’s acceptable to fight over a ball game that you had nothing to do with, support players or coaches who commit crimes and treat the sport--a form of commercial entertainment--as a religion to which morals do not apply.
It’s almost as if some people don’t have anything else other than their favourite ball team to support and be proud of.

As far as I’m concerned, Penn State should not have a football program and all history of the program removed from the record books. The whole situation is disgusting and the people involved should be ashamed of themselves.

the ones I understand the least are people who are ardent college football fans, and are all SRS BSNS about a university they never went to and don’t live near (and never have.)

And another stadium of equal size was being proposed a few counties over.
