That really sucks, I feel ya. Had my credit card info stolen last week, luckily only ~$150 in charges and they got reversed. New card is being expidited too.

Had mine jacked twice due to 7-Eleven’s shitty gas pump security. It’s easy to crowbar their pumps open and mess with whatever’s in there, and that dumb security sticker can just be carefully peeled off and placed back on. They don’t give a damn.

I don’t buy gas from them anymore.

I can’t remember when I last bought gas on my own card but that was probably it. This is the fourth time it’s been stolen in less than 2 years.

If you can qualify, credit cards are typically quite a bit safer - I finally convinced my wife after we got jacked as part of that big Target hack...

I have a couple but generally prefer not to use them. My credit union has been really good at catching the fraudulent activity (and I’m never held financially responsible) - it’s a hassle to keep taking care of it but at least it’s a local hassle. Getting a new credit card from Bank of America is a much bigger pain when that info gets stolen.

Hmm, I’ve never had a problem with national banks when I’ve had credit card info stolen or lost the card. Just call them up, they cancel the card and any fraudulent charges, then mail you a new one (and when I lost my wallet a few days before a trip, Chase had no issue overnighting the new card.)

I second the post about using a credit card. A debit card is not going to build your credit and also much riskier. Get a credit card and set the spending limits on it and just pay it nearly off each month, leave a really small balance to carry over. Chase has been phenomenal for me about security, most recently they sent me a text when I went to Miami because I used my card for fuel in the morning in Tampa and then filled up that night in Miami. Credit Unions and a debit card scare me more because it used to be they have no responsibility for fraudulent transactions so if someone got you account info and managed to transfer funds or the like you were S.O.L.

Anyway thanks for the ginger cat and sucks to hear about the theft.

Last time I had my info stolen, it was because Miss Tesla got herself a keylogger on her computer. Some idiot in San Francisco got my PayPal information and purchased $200 in iTunes cards, probably so they can sell them on eBay as a way of laundering my money.

I got my money back and PayPal investigated the transaction, hope they got the guy.

Eek. Mine is a local issue. It’s a little funny to me because I travel all the time, but the card info is always stolen where I live and always used on a Sunday. I think the people doing it think the banks don’t work on Sunday and therefore won’t catch them or something.

It’s still a hassle if someone does in fact get money out of your account. It can take weeks or months for them to refund the cash but a credit card is an amazing buffer for this. They can cancel charges instantly and you’ll never be out of cash.

Obviously it’s somewhere that you frequent that has a card skimmer or someone working there that is taking the info. Maybe at a drive thru fast food place or something.

It started with Tuna. I adopted her from an ex-coworker when she moved out of country (she had already named the cat). Several years later I took a job that took away all of my personal time so I thought Tuna could use a companion. A friend happened to have a foster cat that no one wanted... can’t imagine why, because he turned out to be amazing. They both sit on command.

Here they are:

Wow, they really do look similar! Skunk sits on command but Dummy thinks obedience is beneath him.
