This salt lake to sf journey is boring. Hey look, more desert. After dropping an uncle in Cody, and aunt/uncle in Montana, and my parents in SLC, my vacation has dwindled to a solitary jaunt across the desert.

Ditch the Mazda and get a nameless horse, also some LSD.

FINALLY! COLORADO!

Crazy long drives across the desert always remind me of the Hunter S. Thompson “ Fear and Loathing” books.

Sometimes solitary jaunts are best jaunts.

Especially across the salt flats. That road is straight and flat out there.

It’s too bad you had to go all the way south to SLC. Not that the hundreds of miles of fields in Southern Idaho are much more interesting... The flats have their own interesting nature to them. Remember that land speed records have been set there. I hope you stop to check out “Metaphore: The Tree of Life” while you’re on them.
The most interesting route that wouldn’t take you way out of the way would have been through Delta, UT & Ely, NV, then merging onto I-80 near Reno...

One time on I-80 my wife was driving and I was napping. I awoke and she was rolling about 95-100 mph. I was shocked since she usually drives 5 under, that’s how boring Nevada I-80 is.

Yeah 80 is boring. There is a hillside of old cars on the right I think before salt lake city. I remember maybe 6 years ago I came back from my dad’s in Red Lodge MT which is an hour north of Cody. That museum in Cody is amazing.

“solitary jaunt across the desert” is code for “how f’n fast can I make this sucker go.”

Fair enough. Though I guess you’re only risking the one person that way.
