They wanted to take him alive to question him in hopes of finding out if there were other people involved.

Becuase before he gets what’s coming to him he needs to get visited by people who are going to get inside his head and try to pry out some information from him. As for what seems to be an increasingly more common double standard based on skin color there definitely also needs to be some answers for that.

Could be differences between practices of agencies, the officers themselves (age, length of time with the police), how the interaction occurred (we know there was a shootout, but what happened during it?), and as SidewaysOnDirt mentioned, they could have been ordered to bring him in alive in order to gain information from him. It’ll be interesting to read the report that comes out on this.

Because the US isn’t policed by the same 10 people so different people in different situations result in different outcomes and your statement is a gross oversimplification of a very complicated problem the US faces when it comes to police shootings?
That or the cops aim just sucked...

There are also black mass murderers who are taken in without getting shot.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…
I’m not saying there isn’t an obvious problem. But if we’re going to play the “this one particular bomber didn’t get shot” line of thinking, we could cherry pick all day finding instances where X terrible person didn’t get hurt while being arrested, but Y non-terrible person was. So many different variables which may not be readily apparent factor into it.

Unless the results of all shootouts with terrorists are 100% “captured alive” and all shootouts with black men are 100% “killed” I’m going to chalk it up to shootouts generally being chaotic and unpredictable events.

For one thing, they’re likely a lot more careful since they want to know if there are other conspirators or devices. Also, it’s a bit silly to compare one incident to another, since pretty much every single variable you can imagine is different.

Looks like none of that. The cops didn’t register a kill shot. They hit him more than once and he fell down in pain.

Did that guy pull a gun when he was arrested though? I think that’s the issue that’s being raised but I could be wrong.

So are you implying the police are incapable of learning from situations when they shouldn’t have pulled the trigger?
Isn’t the whole movement about police getting them better training and pushing for non-life threatening intervention?
I mean, we want that to apply to everyone right?
The only way I can see this call out being legit is if the specific officers involved in this arrest shot black men recently or if they shoot an unarmed black man sometime soon.

I don’t know if he was armed or not, presumably they considered him dangerous though, on account of being suspected of 11 murders.

It’s cool. I meant the interaction as a whole. I was thinking maybe he was wounded and then surrendered, or something else had occurred.

Hollywood taught me that. Aim accuracy easily has to be like 1%.
Remember when LA police shot 100+ bullets into a pickup truck they thought had a cop killer in it? Over 100 bullets and somehow their aim was so bad they managed not to kill the two occupants.

No, clearly the answer to inequality is equality. Police should kill everyone regardless of skin color.

Every single one of those occurred under different circumstances too, though. A few were legitimately armed/violent suspects who were shot as a result, and others were unarmed suspects and it was completely unreasonable for them to be shot.

I did not say that. I don’t think I even implied that, though things can get lost and inferred in the fog of bloggery... I’m just really surprised that the guy isn’t dead of 14 or more gunshot wounds. Perhaps cops
are
shooting with more restraint these days. Maybe NYPD cops are better at that.

Really, Sam, that’s all I’m saying, even if I’m being somehow overly glib about it. I think if PD wanted to kill him, he’d be well and thoroughly dead. But he’s not dead, so I have to conclude that PD didn’t want him dead. Which begs a question: who do they want dead and who don’t they and when and why or why not?

I don’t think they want anyone dead. I think a major cause is a lack of proper training. The officers don’t know how to verbally and physically de-escalate a situation, so what is supposed to be their last resort (their service weapon) is their first response to these situations.
