Thinking about snowflake wheel cleaning got me thinking. A lot of wheels are easy to clean, but there’s a bunch that are flat out brutal.
What’s the worst non-wire wheel you can think of?
My vote is the 80's Pontiac/GN crosslaces:

audi allroad, they have this stupid split design that is impossible to clean out

Any number of factory BMW BBS wheels, particularly the older, smaller ones because the space between spokes is smaller, and the recesses aroud the center are a pain in the ass. Ugh.

Pretty sure these take the cake (not in black though)

Here’s for your amusement: http://oppositelock.kinja.com/before-and-aft… Taping off the bare aluminum faces was the biggest pain in the ass.

I’ve all but given up on mine.

Seems like the hard to reach spots wouldn’t really need to be cleaned though, since they won’t show brake dust much?

You just aren’t lazy enough. Paint it all gold, then sand the front face back down to aluminum?

Any ST wheel. They aren’t difficult to clean, but impossible to keep clean. First application of brake or powered turn, solid coat of dust.

My personal hell was 2005 Focus
Narrow spots are tight enough that you have to clean each one individually, wide spots are wide enough that you can see the rim behind it, so you have to clean back there too if you want it to look presentable. Thankfully, I stopped caring a few years ago when it went to beater status.

Can confirm.

I'm assuming corrosion may be a thing there then.

All wheels that show brake dust.
My solution: Konig Heliums in matte black. (Sorry, Kinja won't let me upload a picture. . .)

My friend has an Evo 6 TME I’ve helped him clean a bunch of times. white wheels + too many spokes = :(
Could be worse, I guess.

A few of the wheels used on various gens of Camaro’s were terrible to clean.
1) 1991-1992 Z28 (specifically the ones used on a white car)
One they never stayed bright white and stained easy
2) 1997 Camaro Z28 (or SS) 30th Anniversary Wheels
While not a complex wheel design the pain was the white wheel. When I owned my 97 Z28 i was washing the wheel at least once a week.
3) 2000-02 Camaro SS wheels
Since buying my 2000 SS convertible with these wheels I have already decided i hate cleaning these. I am already looking for a set of C5 or C6 wheels for it.
