How does this thing pass pedestrian safety standards? That nose looks like a people splitter. I thought that was the reason we don’t have virtually any cars with tall overhangs like that.
In the (paraphrased) words of Jay Leno, doesn’t a pedestrian have to pick themselves up laughing after getting hit by a car these days?

It’s so far past safe, it’s considered a mercy killing at this point.

They call it KODO Dynamic Decapitation.

Probably because of automatic brakeing the stops for people.

From what I can tell, that actually looks really safe as far as knee is concerned. None of the radii are very sharp either.

Isn’t the other part of it that with the nose that high, it gives more room for the hood to bend should a pedestrian end up on it?

Yeah it clears knee level just fine. I guess my evidence-less thought was that the nose hangs over the bumper which would encourage things hit to go under instead of over.

Yea, there’s a whole bunch of stuff. Basically you want people to end up gently sitting on the hood with as little knee ligament and head damage as possible, as opposed to mangling their knees and sending them under the car.

If I were to guess, all the sticking-out parts are plastic and air behind them rather than anything structural.

Hmm, maybe! Plastic > mushy human, though. I’m glad to see that manufacturers are finally starting to figure out ways to meet safety standards and make their cars look unique and attractive. Whatever they did, they did it right.

If you’re not beheading pedestrians with your car’s front end while you drive, you’re doing it wrong.
