The NSX seems like it can walk the walk, but for a number of reasons (not the least of which was the years of “will we or won’t we” vaporware) I just can’t get excited about it.

Can a brand new super car beat a bunch of cars that cost less than half of its MSPR? And saying “less than half” is assuming these cars all have 20-30,000 dollars worth of mods on them.

Honestly showing up to an event like this that seems relatively grassroots in a borrowed 160,000 dollar car, with a factory support team, is kind of a dick move.

Put it this way: we peasants always say “You never use your supercar in full” to the rich bloke. The R&T piece is a look into what would it be like if the rich supercar owners says “Fine!” and does so. It’s a good real-world test, to me, because it shows just how far your supercar money will get you.

The trick, I think, is to have a sort of SCCA Targa for rich owners. Just set up some ground rules about factory support and modifications, and you’re set.

Except I doubt those rich owners would be fixing their $150k+ Super cars when things broke, which they would. They'd just drop them off at the dealership.

Wheelerguy is spot on. I know that Mark worked very hard to put all of this together with the goal of using the NSX to its fullest extent. I traveled with him and competed in the events in my WRX and was impressed at how compliant the NSX was. The factory tech was an awesome guy but that was something that Acura requested since this was a pre-production car.

Mark and Jay drove the NSX in multiple events and then drove the car over 1000 miles on the road in about 2 days. Now would you rather see this or some guy taking pictures of the NSX in some tropical location and talking about how it understeered or oversteered on the road behind the resort?

As far as the dick move portion, instead of going to bed early, Mark would stop and talk to all enthusiasts along the way and let them check out the car for as long as they wanted. He gave ride alongs whenever he had time and showed anything to anyone that asked. I know this because we were two hours late eating dinner in Charlotte because there was a large group of kids that wanted to sit in and take pictures with the car:
