The GT86 is available for sale in Canada this month. My question is, when it starts at $29,580 before taxes (and $35,480 after them), why not get a base BRZ which is essentially the same for $2k less?

I think the BRZ looks considerably better than the facelift led GT86, too.

I’m going to have to agree with you.

Why buy legendary unrealiability in headgaskets when you can buy a car for 2 grand more that’ll run till it snaps in half from rust? #ToyotaPower

Resale value? Even though Subaru is good at that too.

Resale on these is pretty okay. Only a handful have dropped below $20k at this point.

Not if my insurance has anything to say about it!

I think there are less BRZs allocated for Canadian market than FRS/GT86. Someone once told me it’s like 10 FRS for every 1 BRZ when they started selling them, so maybe you get less options to choose from and longer wait time if you go for BRZ.

Never heard of that.

And the BRZ has two trim levels, GT86 has one, both have options that can be installed by the dealer. Don’t know about wait times for them, though.

Same car, right? The only difference is the logo, right? And while the Toyota logo is nice, I guess, the Subaru logo is much, much better. So you’d think the Subaru would cost more.

that’s topsy turvy, the BRZ is slightly more expensive where I live, but comes with a better capped service deal.

Almost $6,000 in taxes? Socialism sucks.

Government subsidised health care and lower costs of post-secondary education make up for it.

Internet tells me that apparently BRZ weights 6lb more and is set up to understeer more. Honestly I would prefer base BRZ to save a few loonies.

I have no idea.

I’d buy the BRZ anyway I like the front end more.

As an FR-S owner, and diehard Toyota fan, I say get the BRZ. The GT86 front end is no appealing. I am dissapointed. Put that $2k in savings into one set of stickier tires (wheels too if you wanna replace the stock ones) and a set of winter wheels/tires as well.

Any money saved would immediately go to insurance ($400 a month, baby!). The used market seems pretty good for these, though.

$400/mo?! Jesus!!! I pay like $96/mo, and that’s with the rates getting jacked up because of all the kids driving these who think they’re Takumi.

Yeah, if you really want a Toyobaru go used. They’re hitting bottom dollar here in the U.S., so unless someone really wants a new car, there’s no sense in not buying a used one in good shape for $14-16k.

I’m a male under 25 living in Canada’s largest city, so insurance rates are probably going to be high. Consider the fact that they’re relatively inexpensive so young yahoos can buy and crash them, and you end up with higher rates. It’s cheaper for me to own a V8 Mustang than a BRZ.

Yeah, I could see that. I’m 28 living in Chicago, although in a nicer area, and thankfully have a fairly clean driving record. But yeah, all the young kids crashing these like crazy aren’t helping. Granted, I also crashed mine fairly early on thanks to hydroplaning in a ridiculous rain storm... lol

The BRZ just looks better, and their drivers are cooler. I know, I was one of them.
