While I’m new to V8's, I’m certainly loving the Mustang. It’s a boat, to be sure, but it handles and brakes better than anything I’ve owned before. I’ve got lots of plans for this philly, for now it’s stock with new speakers and a catback. There will be more though, much more.

Kinja'd!!!

It is, simply, a better horse.

My dad, a devoted Chevy fan from a Chevy family, fell in love with an EcoBoost rental. He was super impressed by the overall quality and the level of performance.

Build quality aside (and I’m super impressed with the mustang build quality), the Ecoboost 2.3 is a Mazdaspeed3 engine (basically an updated MZR 2.3 DISI motor). It’s a good engine to be sure, but I’ve owned a speed3 and that engine before. It’s got a few faults. More than that though, I needed me a V8.

I’ve read a lot about the Coyote 5 litre as well as the LS options. I was leaning towards GM, but Ford had some stupidly good deals on their 2016 stock. Found a base 300A package GT with performance pack for less than the price of its used 2015 counterpart.

Pretty much couldn’t say no.

It’s kind of sad that upgrading your exhaust now means getting new speakers.

Nice car, though. Looks great in red.

while the Ecoboost 2.3 and MZR DISI have a common ancestry, they’re actually quite different. When Ford divested its share of Mazda, they kind of both went their separate ways and evolved their own versions of the engine separately. Although you’ll still see the similarities in the engine blocks, the EB 2.3 has a completely new cylinder head.

only the Ecoboost has Active Noise Control (ANC.) The GT doesn’t.

When it comes to the new Camaro & Mustang there's really no wrong decision. Pony cars have gotten so good lately.

Even the second generation MZR had Ford parts all throughout it. I can’t tell you how many FoMoCo parts I pull out of my speed.

I don’t doubt that Ford has updated the motor, but it is not a new plant. The downside I see looking at the power output is that it falls flat on it’s face the same way the MZR does above 5500rpm. Nothing a bigger turbo won’t fix, but still.

Oh I know, I wasn’t saying they’re completely different motors (the blocks look pretty damn close to me) but just that they’re diverging as time goes on.

unfortunately turbos are always a trade-off between response time and airflow.
