My grandad told me to pretend everyone else on the road is a complete moron and to treat them as such. Best advice ever.

My Dad taught me hyper-defensive driving. That is anticipate every stupid thing that could happen around you and drive accordingly. People are dumb and are going to do dumb shit.

At a certain point, in addition to normal awareness of cars around me, I can sense when someone is about to do something stupid nearby. There’s just some subtle movements they make or don’t make that raise a red flag and cause me to give them a wide berth.
