I was on Autotrader and I saw an interior picture for a 1999 Alfa Romeo 156 S. Whether it’s worth $16k is one question, but I noticed the shift pattern for it. I looked it up, and apparently it’s called a Q-System, where you can leave it in automatic or use an H-pattern to manually shift it. Does anyone have any experience with it, or can they drop more of a knowledge bomb for me?

To be fair, Jag made the J-gate. Still, it’s kind of cool, but also what the hell were they thinking?

I looked, and nope. It’s a regular automagic for the most part.

Just too bad it probably doesn’t work in that car tho

Just like the PRND234 but with a funny pattern to mimic a manual shift pattern.

It looks like an automated manual, but it has park, so it might be a regular automatic with triptronic in a weird way.

I figured as much. Just... wow.

It kinda reminds me of the shifter on the older Logitech wheels where you could switch it from sequential to H-pattern.
I can kinda dig it.

Going to the article I just read on it, it’s to get a more tactile experience to solve the “foibles” of the traditional Tiptronic that returns to center after a shift input

In a weird way I kind of like this.

More cars need their national flag on the center console

Yes it’s a conventional torque converter automatic with added sportiness because Alfa.

The thinking was manual on one side and automatic on the other.

I have dreamed of cars that have both gearboxes mushed into one.
I read the comments and found out this was not the case.
Still, if the gearbox mimics a mechanical “snick snick” feeling of changing gears, I’d call it a victory.

Because Alfa?
