Had my induction for my new job. Found some really positive things but also that theres some very stressful times ahead. Had the induction in a hotel but I start in my new office early tomorrow. Wish me luck, this kind of stuff is very new to me. Knuckling down and working is never a problem for me, but dealing with office politics and uncertainty can be. We’ll see.

What are you doing at the new job?

I’m sure you’ll get used to it. Is this your first office job?
BTW I’ve never seen an RS with the glass roof, bit of an odd combination, since even the basic RS had rock hard suspension, so why compromise the rigidity.

Its a graduate training programme that gives you sin 8 week placements inside the business all in different disciplines. You then choose which you prefer and specialise. So in short, I have no idea haha. It’s a construction company.

It is so all new for me.
You don’t see that spec too often. It’s the softer non cup RS and basically everyone bought the cup.

Well done fella.
In regards to office politics, rule one, keep your head down and stay out of it. No answer will be the right answer so just knod and smile where you think right and get the hell out of the room if you can.
Offices are full of negative groups, but till you find your feet, keep away from all the groups.
Don’t try to be negative or stand off-ish so keep answers neutral and make yourself indespensible to the boss but not so much that you become a target to some of the groups.
It’s finding the right balance.

It’s cool that they are bringing you in and allowing you to try different things before you choose your final position.

I’ve never really worked anywhere else than my current desk job, apart from trail working for a day at a certified Ferrari shop as a shop help/car cleaner. So when I’m done studying I won’t have to adapt to office work that much.
A guy I know at university, who used to work at a Renault/Nissan/RS/Nismo dealership, told me that the normal RS is hard, but that the Cup is bone shattering harsh compared to that. Which isn’t such a surprise since the normal Twingo is not the softest sprung car to begin with.

Yeah it is a great way of doing things, it’s not easy taking it all in though but nothing worth doing ever is.

Yeah I can believe that, my base spec car corners pretty flat and doesnt like potholes.

It also gives you a good chance to avoid a position you are not happy in. A happy worker tends to be more productive than one who hates their job.

Yeah very true. I think the hard part is im rotating departments and each one has its own management so ill have to stay good with 7 management teams within a year.
I’ll just try to stay chill and focused for now. My mental health is very up and down at times so it’s not just about doing well at work, but looking after myself too.

Grit your teeth for a while, find your feet, then give it to them with both barrels. Don’t suffer fools but find out which are the fools and which are playing you for a fool.
But either way. Try to leave the office stuff, at the office. When it comes home it’s hard to separate later on.
If need be have a pub where you can meet your girlfriend for a pint or something, get everything off your chest there over a pint or a coffee and then go home. Set a mental barrier between work and home. But only use that pub for letting off steam, it doesn’t have to be a great pub, in fact the worse it is, the better, and not for anything else.

Thats actually a pretty good idea, having a middle ground so I don’t bring my stress home. I’m guilty of being a bit touchy and argumentative at times due to having a bad day which obviously isnt fair on my gf, anything that can help prevent that would be pretty good.

It’s always a good idea to have a middle ground to vent off away from work but before you get home. If you keep it for after work you’ll get into the mind set that it’s a place of refuge.

Settling nicely into the flat itself, actually really like it. Haven’t had chance to communicate with neighbours much besides a smile or saying good morning. They all seem fine though. No drug smells or noise or rubbish left in the hallways. So better than most flat blocks ive visited haha.
