I think people tend to view it through nostalgia-tinted glasses. Some of it, like Led Zeppelin, is legendary. Much of it is lazily written crap trying to copy the success of the good stuff. That applies to pretty much every genre though.

I agree that Classic rock RADIO sucks. They are not making any new Classic rock, so you have to hear the same 3 Zep songs, 2 Stones songs, 3 AC/DC songs over and over. If they actually went into the archive a bit for some deep cuts, it would be much better and I think more people would enjoy the genre.
