He’s about a month away from actually buying one, but he’s really excited about it.

4Runner experts: what are the major differences between a fifth gen pre-facelift and post-facelift?

New headlights and tailights, smoked

Redesigned bumpers

New alloy wheels on the SR5

New variants (e.g. TRD Pro)

Limited wheels gain diamond-cut finish

The pre-facelift ones look a lot better.

That kinda what I expected - cosmetic. I think the facelifted ones got official J2807 tow ratings, but I don’t know if it actually changed anything. EDIT: MY2014 was 4700 lbs, but MY2015 was back to 5000. I suspect that they didn’t have their paperwork in order and had to subtract the weight of “two adults (150lbs each)“ to be called SAE J2807 compliant without a retest. so, if he is going to be towing above 4700 lbs but below 5000 lbs and wants to be on the absolute legal safe side...avoid MY2014?

So basically nothing important.

Where the hell is that awesome meme about the bulldog crying in the woods? I will never be able to look at those 5th Gens the same way ever ago. The front clip above — is that the facelift? Much better. But I'm still a fan of the 4th gen all-around.

The larger diameter wheels on the 5th gen have always looked like wagon wheels to me. The proportions are just wrong. They either need to be wider or shorter.

On the 5th gen, only the Limited has full-time 4wd. If this is primarily going to be an on-road vehicle intended to be good at for winter driving, full-time 4wd is much more desirable. All the other trims have basic part-time shift on the fly 4wd. But...the Limited has no low range.

Basically Toyota totally screwed the pooch on the transfer case options for the 5th gen.

The ability to more easily mount an aftermarket front bumper, lol.

I really liked the 2010-2013 4Runner’s front fascia. The headlights, the DRLs, the square-jawedness of it all.

Couldn’t stand the look of the 2014 when it came out. What the hell were they thinking? Now it just bothers me less.

Will say that while I personally prefer a full bumper, I do like the way these integrate into the existing plastic - http://www.southernstyleoffroad.com/product/2014-4…

I’m pretty sure just lights, bumpers and trim levels

I was reading this review on Car & Driver that mentioned the single speed transfer case, but I think that’s incorrect. The online brochure on Toyota’s site has a dial in the Limited with 3 settings: H4F, H4L, and L4L, which I assume are full-time 4 Hi, locked 4 Hi, and locked 4 Lo.

Yeah I don’t think the 4wds have ever been single speed

I drove one the other day, I absolutely loved it. My mom really loved it, sadly out of our price range :/
