Kinja'd!!!

Just Svended my car after the holidays in Croatia. My fellow travellers slathered themselves with sunscreen, much like the boy in the picture. It ended up ALL OVER MY FUCKING INTERIOUR!!!! Doorcards, glovebox lid, you name it, pretty much anywhere they touched. It comes off nicely with a plastic cleaner, but everytime I thought I was done, I found another spot I missed.

It’ll discolor stuff with enough of it.

As a family who goes to the swimming pool almost every day of the week from May through September, I feel you. Just wipe it down and use Armor All, 303, or whatever your choice of interior protectant. The mineral-based stuff is the worst, by far, but is the most effective and safest for the wearer (like the picture).

Also, it’s disgusting. Use this instead. Goes on easy, dries fast, only comes off with time or a good soapy shower. Doesn’t get all over everything.

Oh no :( Good thing it comes off clean. Does it smell like sunblock though?

I’m going to Svend the hell out of my cars on Sunday. It’s been about 10 months since the last time.

It will absolutely discolor stuff if not cleaned off fast enough.

Buy an ex-copcar. That should solve interior staining problems.

I could be wrong, but a lot of ingredients we take for granted are outlawed in a lot of the world. Sunscreen is some pretty scary stuff (hormone disruptors, etc). Most of it is scare tactics, but the FDA gives those products a lot more leeway than most things.

Whoa wtf and I thought sunscreen was safe. Damned if you do damned if you don’t. I wonder what’s a better risk, skin issues from sun exposure or whatever the heck is in the sunscreen.

Yeah, but frankly it’s bodily evil in a tube vs. bodily evil in a spray can vs. sunburn.

The usual claim of consequences with chemical products for use by/on people is possible cancer.

The consequences of sunburn is eventual cancer.

Basically you’re fucked either way, and sunscreen is a lot more comfortable way to get cancer than sunburn. That said, I’d actually rather deal with a peeling sunburn than put on the squeeze stuff. Blistering sunburn

Alternately put on more clothes, but fuck that noise.

There is also a lot to be said for frequency of exposure.

If you live in Hawaii and wear it all the time you will probably have long term issues. If you wear it a few times a year, not as much.

Spray sunblock is constantly bemoaned for being inadequate protection vs regular sunblock , but it is great stuff because it’s quick and easy to use- therefore people use it more often.

Not to mention all the people that are skeptical about sunblock but smoke a pack a day, work on their cars without gloves, spray paint without a mask, maintain unhealthy levels of body fat, etc.

Bottom line is that using sunscreen WILL protect you from skin cancer, but MIGHT give you man-boobs. The difference is the first one is 100% proven, the second one is not.

Inadequate protection... pffft. I’ve been using it for years, I’m the kind of guy who doesn’t recoat during the day and who likes to just stay in the water, and the only times I’ve gotten burned have been when I let someone incompetent do my back or when I’m being impatient. Those both apply to the regular crap too. That said, I stick to the “Sport” stuff rather than the basic sprays, and it’s supposed to stay on better, so... yeah that could be the source of my luck.

Not skeptical—aware though, smoke-no, I hate gloves but will use them if I have to, rattle can in the open OK, otherwise I’ll have that mask thanks, A FAT REMARK HOW FUCKING DARE YOU yeah that’s me too :)

Just be careful of the stuff around the paint work, sunscreen like moisturiser and young children's natural hand oils leave nasty marks that ghost into the paint and need polished off. Awful stuff.

Sun tan lotion and any lotion in general have a nasty tendency to destroy plastics especially soft touch type and ones with artwork

What material are your seats? I have black velours, so they didn’t do any harm there, just ALL the plastic surfaces. I could see the plastic cleaner working well on leatherette, though.
