My family and I ran over to Seattle last weekend for some end of summer fun and ended up at the air museum at Boeing field. Here is their B-29. Enjoy.

Just saw one of these over the weekend and what struck me was that for how “big” they are...they are actually quite small. What really blows your mind is when you stand under a b17 and realize that its only 2x as big as an A10 and has a less usefull payload.

And for as big as the B-17 seems, it had a max crew weight of 1,200 pounds. For a crew of 10. That’s a lot of skinny dudes. Of course, the crew were all about 18-19 years old, and the pilots were barely in their mid-20s.

Hey, I was there on Saturday!
If you ever get a chance, hiking up to the B-17 wreckage on the way up to Buckhorn Lake on the Peninsula is pretty cool.

The Lancaster is even tighter inside. I toured a B-17 once and could barely get my fat self through the catwalk in the bomb bay.
