I do not like this car.

Ooh...early-mid 2000s Cavalier? My friend had one. What glorious junk.

That looks like the world’s single worst place to put a cigarette lighter outlet ever.
![]() 08/23/2016 at 21:59 |

This may be the worst steering wheel in existence. Wow
![]() 08/23/2016 at 22:01 |

It looks like the face lifted 2003+ which at least means a 4-speed auto instead of the 3-speed that hung around from 1982-2002.
![]() 08/23/2016 at 22:03 |

Having to look at that every day would be just incredibly depressing.
![]() 08/23/2016 at 22:04 |

Yeah, that’s not even pretty.
My 2002 had this one:

Maybe it doesn't like you either, did you ever think of that?

2-spoke wheels needed to die a very long time ago.
![]() 08/23/2016 at 22:13 |

A 2004 I think. It's almost impressively bad
![]() 08/23/2016 at 22:13 |

Holy crap that's a long time to have a 3 speed....yeah the transmission isn't the worst, I didn't expect that. The engine isn't half bad either
![]() 08/23/2016 at 22:14 |

Oh it definitely doesn't, in fact if I let go of the wheel at all, it would immediately lunge into oncoming traffic
![]() 08/23/2016 at 22:14 |

That's definitely not pretty either, but it offends me less for some reason
![]() 08/23/2016 at 22:14 |

It looks sad.

Some of them can be good, but I've never seen a good looking two spoke airbag wheel
![]() 08/23/2016 at 22:15 |

At least it’s upfront about its humble cost cutting.
“Yeah, we both know I cost GM $5 for 100. I still turn the wheels. Let’s get on with it.”
The OP one though...
![]() 08/23/2016 at 22:16 |

It drives sad too
![]() 08/23/2016 at 22:16 |

Hmm, I’d worry more about the ignition switch. That’s what is going to kill you.

Two spoke airbag wheels have ruined a lot of otherwise tolerable interiors. Mostly early 00s American interiors. The panther platform cars come to mind, as does the “skyline taillight” Impala.

Bah. They aren’t meant to be liked. They’re meant to get you there cheaply and reliably.
![]() 08/23/2016 at 22:19 |

Of course that could have been its attempt to end its sad, miserable existence.
![]() 08/23/2016 at 22:30 |

True, and I don’t doubt it’s ability to do that. The seats are even comfortable, it’s just that everything seems almost intentionally ugly
![]() 08/23/2016 at 22:32 |

That, or the really bad pull to the left it has

Yeah no kidding

I hate the 2 spoke wheel in my Mini. I need to find out if I can somehow fit a second generation wheel and still keep my cruise control.

Is there a reason you are torturing yourself with a Cavalier when you have a Subaru?
![]() 08/23/2016 at 22:59 |

Remarkably little effort was put into how any of it looked, but they sold at a price that it didn’t matter. My sister was able to buy an ‘03 Cavalier brand new in high school, she paid $12k out the door for it. She had saved up $4k, my parents matched it (this, BTW, is the deal I’ll be offering my girls when they get towards driving age), and she paid the remaining $4k off in less than a year while waitressing part-time. It never let her down.

To charge the battery. It’s my girlfriends grandparents old car, so it’s just the spare car at her parents house now. It sits for months at a time, so today we jump started it and took it out to make sure it’s still doing alright.

Oh wow, that’s a very fair point. Solid deal for a kid too, I’ll have to keep that in mind if I ever had kids
![]() 08/23/2016 at 23:11 |

It was a much better deal for her than the deal I got. I was forced to buy my mom’s old car from them, which promptly fell the fuck apart. (To be fair they gave me a lot of help in purchasing a replacement vehicle for it, which made up for it)
I like the deal because it makes them have some skin in the game, which I strongly believe is crucial. At the same time it helps them get a much batter and more reliable car. An $8k car is a hell of a lot better than a $4k car. It also incentivizes savings, because every dollar they hang onto counts as two.

Lemme just see if the engine’ll sta—
Oh darn, I think I popped a fuse.

That sounds disappointing, but that’s nice that they helped with a replacement.
For sure, it lets them feel appreciated with the gift factor, while also necessitates responsibility and some agency

The steering wheel looks like it’s shrugging. That is the Eeyore of steering wheels.

I never liked the look of this while I owned one. But at least the bolsters were ok, and the steering feel of that car was actually really, really good.
Dangit. Now I want another one.
