So on the other spectrum from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , we have a more well-worn example of an ‘88 Fiero GT. This one is more of a custom job than the last. It has (reading near-verbatim from the description here) a GM 3.4 DOHC V6 swapped in (with 30k miles on it), Muncie 4 speed manual, a Clutchnet 6 puck unsprung race clutch, Nippon Lightstar lightweight wheels, Corvette 12" rotors up front. Seller claims it needs some TLC w/r external body work, a new windshield (but he has one on hand ready to be installed) and that the frame has no rust. Also, the tires might need to be replaced due to wear from “custom camber adjustment for maximum handling”.

Asking price : $2500 .

There were interior pics earlier and a pic of the engine bay, but when I refreshed the page before writing this post, they were gone. Hmm...

If I were a madman (and I kinda am), I’m not sure I’d daily this. I’d probably do something like strip the interior, apply rollcage, and LeMons the thing, given what’s already been done to it. Oppothoughts? Cheap performance steal or custom project nightmare?

That Fiero’s NP all day. ‘88's the one you want. Seriously good for 2500.

Definitely NP. If it were closer, i’d be going to get it.

Too much customizing for my tastes. I’d rather get a clean ‘88 GT that hasn’t been questionably modified, even if it costs me twice as much. Such as this: http://toledo.craigslist.org/cto/5705810661…

But on the off chance the one you posted has been done right, the 3.4 is a decent swap choice. Wait, I just noticed it’s a Muncie 4-speed... so he took the manual from a non-’88? This must have been automatic from the factory. Otherwise the stock Getrag 5-speed is a better choice and bolts right up to nearly any GM FWD engine swap.

Yeah, I probably wouldn’t take my chances here. I’ll go with an ‘88 that was built right from the factory and taken care of. Drive it until the engine blows and then swap in a supercharged 3.8 or something.

NP all day, especially with the 3.4L swap.

np. for that cheap it is hard to find a running car in good shape, let alone a fiero.

An ‘88 GM that was built right at the factory? Good one.

Fair! But I do trust even ‘80s/’90s GM build quality (I’ve been daily driving a ‘96 Grand Prix for 10 years) over the modifying skills of a Craigslister asking less than $3k for his car.

Saw this on CL a few days ago and had the same thoughts. Seems cheap for what it is.

This is on my local cl. It’s a really intriguing deal, in my mind. And I saw the interior and engine pics before, it needs some cleaning up.

This is (or at least used to be?) a really popular swap. A 7000rpm, 200hp V6 is a great fit for this car, and it mounts up with the original engine mounts and transmission. Not to mention how much it improves the performance! I would really like to see the car in person to see what it would need. Being that it was a DD... it sounds like it could be driven with just maintenance for a period of time without issue. And that’s definitely worth $2500.

If I wasn’t looking for a more modern and practical DD right now, I’d probably pick this one up.
