Anyone one else having FP posting issues? I find it hard to believe my little anal prolapse joke aimed at David Tracy’s headline was enough to send me into the greys. If so, I think it’s pretty ironic that I’m in the greys on Jalopnik, but not on Jezebel. A Mustang about to run over a pedestrian in Prague for your time.

I’m back in the greys again, probably by Westbrook. I’m pretty sure I know why, but at this point I no longer care. They seem far too eager to dismiss people just for disagreeing with them. seems Gawker’s pettiness is contagious.

I made a sophomoric comment on the FP once that drew the ire of one poster who said something about banishing me to the greys. He shouldn’t have had any power to do it, but lo and behold, I was grey again. Patrick un-greyed me same day, but I never knew how it happened. These things can be a bit of a mystery when so many people have power over these permissions. You should be able to appeal and be reinstated without problem.

Yeah, this photo is from a few winters ago. I actually saw quite a few American cars in Prague. Saw what looked to be a decommissioned Border Patrol Explorer being used to guard the castle.

the problem is that if you didn’t get in soon after the crackdown went into effect, it gets less and less likely you’ll be ungreyed unless you beg.

I’m willing to attribute about 10 percent of his unprofessional attitude to this being his very first paid gig. IIRC, he’s still in college, and they snapped him up from here on Oppo.

But that’s as much leeway as he gets from me. Snark from commenters is probably the least bad thing that you can experience when you call yourself a journalist. The snark he gets is nowhere near as bad as the constant harassment his female counterparts get/got (Alissa Walker, anyone?). He needs to get over it and grow a thicker skin.

That’s one of the few things I will miss about the oil field, all the Spanish cursing. I was based out of Alice Texas and I’d say more than 75% of the people I worked with were either Mexicans/of Mexican decent/Hispanic, so there was a lot of Spanish spoken.

I am familiar with Alice! Question: did you leave the industry because you wanted to (ie: bigger/better job or some such) or because you had to (ie: oil fields drying up, less available work, etc.)? I hear conflicting reports about what’s going on out there and in the Eagle Ford Shale.

I got laid off, so it was involuntary; however, I hated that job and probably wasn’t going to last much longer anyways. So probably for the best. My company cut so many people. I’m not sure how it is out there any more, I’ve still got a friend who works for my former company but I haven’t really gotten an indication of what’s going on out there, she hasn’t said too much other than one she hated was probably going to pick up her crew again. I know when I got laid off, we were hurting for work. The last two crews I was on got shut down by our clients. One cause they stopped all eagle ford shale operations the other cause they went with our competitor.

I was an engineer so I didn’t do any physical work unless I wanted to. I did help rig up and down at times, however I was usually busy with paperwork and other things like that so I didn’t get to much. They do use you until they don’t need you though I will agree on that. Looking for another job so I can have a normal life.
