the interior would only really be effected at the C-pillar, which is covered with plastic. I think you could rig up some suitable covers for it to look good inside still.

I have considered trading my EK hatch for a sedan... family man problems.

Well, you probably don’t want mine. The paint’s all scratched up, and it has 202k, though it runs great. Super clean inside, too.

You know they could very easily have gotten a rear half-cut from a salvage yard off of a totaled EK hatch, right? We used to sell those to body shops all the time. Cut it through the roof and the middle of the door jambs.
