On our last installment, readers learned of the epic journey taken to bring the machine to its new home. Follow now as an install makes things cooler.
Her lies and engine covered in coolant. Always got hot, but never blew it.
DAMMITDAMMITDAMMIT! I say after realizing the amount of money I could potentially spend on this build. That and my engine is covered in coolant. Poop. Good news is after checking prices for a radiator, I realize I will be in around $100 for repairs on this car. 90's Hondas are cheaper than Cavaliers for parts. It’s actually quite amazing.
I start ripping things out of the engine bay. Literally. I did remove this car from a parking pad, but it had vines growing through it. I s*t you not. After gardening, I go to remove the supports and hoses for the radiator and this happens...
When the oulets come crumbling down....
I’m just glad it lasted as long as it did.
The rest of removal went as textbook as it comes. I have never owned a Honda before but I now know why they are so popular to work on. It was intuitive and easy. Everything made sense and there was a surprising amount of room given it is a fwd car.
What came next will shock you, amaze you, FRIGHTEN you... prepare yourself for what you see will make you shiver, jump, SCREAM and want to cower in your closets asking for your mother.
Or just simply be glad that this thing is being changed.
New and improved InvisiRad! With bigger holes so the bugs don’t get stuck!!
Never in my days as a mechanic have I seen this before. The fins were crumbling like King Tut’s shoes. I could see through it. In a bad way. I am so glad it failed so I could replace it.
I transferred the fans over, filled everything up and started it. After 2 cooling cycles and some burping, the old girl was ready for action. I ran her up and down the street a few times and soon, after complete cleaning and reassembly, she will be ready for sale!

The part that rusted out was just the fins. The bars are what the fluid runs through. As far as what caused it? Beats me. My guess is living in the rust belt coupled with how thin the fins are plus sitting for 10 years did it.
