My next door neighbor sold her house the day before I got the clapped out pile of shit that is my company van. It cannot fit in my garage and will be in the driveway every night after 5, and every weekend. I’m legitimately terrified that the new neighbors will pressure the HOA to ban commercial vehicles from being kept in driveways and force me to quit my new job.

Hopefully it won’t happen. Some people down the street run a carpet company and have no less than three vans at home every day. So I guess the new neighbor can’t say they didn’t know this was a thing already.

Jeez. The more I hear about neighbours the more I think that they’re a terrible terrible thing, and that I’d be catastrophically bad at dealing with them.

I’m very lucky that I live in a place without any close neighbours, and the ones we have have no legal powers to make us stop doing what we’re doing (although considering a lot of our buildings don’t have planning permission, it’s still a good idea not to do any really loud work on Sundays).

A friend of mine and her husband were building a house and were told they would need to opt for an oversized (taller) garage to park his work van because it couldn’t be in the driveway (HOA rule). They forked over a few grand for that and then after they moved in several people on their street were leaving commercial vehicles in their driveways with no HOA enforcement of that rule.
