I thought about this as a child, then decided it probably wouldn’t work...I’ve never seen someone actually try it. Look unnatural and heavy.

sure looks smooth though

Why not hydrofoil? Seems like a weird way to implement a partial displacement hull.

Yes, but if you have an ocean fishing guide business, this would be neat

Interdasting!

I also see the appeal for ferries and medium sized ships, makes the ride more pleasant and make docking in foul whether easier.

I have to think that the sensation of damping/floating over what you can see to be bumpy water would make any seasickness 10 times worse.

nah, hydrofoils have been doing that for years.

Isn’t half the fun of boating smashing it into waves?

I find swath hulls to be cooler

We got a pretty quick one and it will hurt your wrists

I love things like this, the audacity that someone actually made the idea real. And the ‘4Play’ model is the closest thing I’ve ever seen to a mechanical waterbug. Very cool.
In reality the cost would probably be so prohibitive. I figure it could only see life in special military or enforcement/rescue applications or as very high-dollar toys.
Still, that doesn’t keep me from loving the sight of it!

Pretty much exactly what you said. I think the 4play is close to being amazing, they need to add a stagger to the front pods and make them powered.

this would be great for water ambulances if that’s even a thing.

This is really cool. Like you, I thought about something like this as a child and am excited to see someone actually trying it.
I want to take this to some of our naval architects and see if we could put a suspension on a DDG!
