Kinja'd!!!

Last year I hit 30.

Most Jalops, especially the old ones, think I’m probably a 13 year old girl from Wisconsin or something. But, surprise surprise, I’m a 30 year dude.

Sorry.

I’ve been driving my 2010 Mazda 6 for 6 years now. It’s my baby. I treat it well, I give it everything it wants and more. But, I bought the car because I needed a vehicle now that I was entering the workforce. I also got a rather nice deal on it.

Bought it brand new in 2010 and as of this post, it has 151,742 miles on it. It’s a very nice 4 banger that I take on the backroads of Northeast Pennsylvania and enjoy thoroughly. Ironic that the backroads of this state are better kept than most of its highways. If you love your car, don’t drive in Philly.

So Spiegel, why is there a picture of a Jaguar XE instead of your baby? Well, the short answer is, unlike normal babies and like all them kids Brad-Gelina have, I’m thinking it’s time for a switch.

I’ve been looking at a lot of cars. If I’m honest, too many. There’s quite a few of choices out there. It’s great most of the time, capitalism and such. But it can be overwhelming. So instead of being a fanboy, I thought to myself what it is I need and what it is I want out of my next car. And I think I got it figured out.

Need:

AWD - I live in the Poconos, snow is an understatement. “BUT SPIEGEL, RWD CARS CAN HANDLE SNOW QUITE WE—” dude, I don’t care, go away.

A sedan - I’ve always felt a sedan is the perfect middle ground. More space than a coupe, low to the ground as opposed to an SUV or a truck where it’s too high for my tastes.

Power - My family, my friends and a good chunk of my coworkers are a bunch of fat fucks. Me? I’m bordering on fat fuckyness at 225lbs. It would be nice if my next car was able to handle the girth of the Spiegel family.

Want:

A great looking car. Or what I would consider a great looking car. It’s all a matter of opinion, really. And I think I have amazing taste and you’re ugly. j/k you’re beautiful, dude reading this. ;)

Comfort - We all have an ass. Some are great, some are not. Everyone’s got one, everyone uses it in clever and interesting ways. Some make a living out of it. And some, like me, just use it for sitting and poopin’ and this one time as—ANYWAY. I like to enjoy my driving experience and a rock hard suspension or really stiff seats on route 80/78 is akin to torture.

Tech - I think this would fall under “comfort” as well but It’s my super cool list. Android Auto, GPS, Pandora, etc. Hell, at least bluetooth. It’s 2016, ya’ll.

Sunroof/Moonroof - “BUT YOU SAID YOU WANTED POWER THIS ADDS WEIGHT TO THE CAR AND—” Yeah but I love it. Also, I thought I told you to go away.

So a lot of cars fit into this description. Ford Fusion Sport, Dodge Charger, Lexus IS 300/350, BMW 3 series and even the one I’ve been considering the past few weeks, the Jaguar XE. They’ve done a helluva job re-rebranding themselves initially with the F-Type and now the F-Pace and XE. But the fear of “British Engineering” is still relevant.

The car looks and feels great, I was lucky to test drive one a few days ago and it gave me chills. The good kind of chills. But then again, I didn’t own the car. I’m concerned that the bad kind of chills will come on the first oil change.

I guess, all of this is a moot point at this moment since I will be changing my car at the end of the year instead of now. But I just want to be sure that the car will last years...or at least 6.

The Lexus IS300/350 use the same engine. The 300 is detuned and designed to have a broad torque curve. The 350 AWD is a nice car, but the 300 is plenty good enough.

And as it is a Lexus, it will last for many years. Though your fat-ass passengers might have more room in a different car. CPO GS? Rides better than the IS to be honest.

There is no Android/Apple integration though. Just standard BT connectivity, though iPhones can use Siri Eyes Free. Lexus will not allow Apple/Google to collect customer info and sell it. They also still think they can do it better.

I agree with them entirely on the first point; even BMW, Audi, and Mercedes have backed off working with Google because The Goog wants to collect too much info.

Lexus second point is wrong though. But I’m not sure how they can find a middle ground with the tech giants.

I have a thing for Audis, so something like an A6 (S6) would fit your bill, though I don’t know your budget. And Audis tend to be expensive to maintain. If you’re shopping new-ish though, the warranty should cover most of what can go wrong.

Jags have been good (well market average but this is Jaguar we’re talking about) on the reliability front for a while. That said Land Rover weirdly, are still battling it out with Jeep as to who is best at getting stranded in the middle of the jungle.

As a fellow member of the ‘85 Vintage (a very fine year!), I wholeheartedly support the XE idea. I'm contemplating one myself!

Love the design language of the XE, but I caution you about the seats. I went to the JLR debut of the XE and Jag SUV here in Nashville and had only one complaint: I feel the butt portion of the seats are not comfortable at all. I am 6' and about 195lbs. I have broad shoulders and a wide stance from pull-ups, weightlifting and the USMC Camp Lejeune rugby team. I could not see myself driving long distances in the XE because of the lack of butt comfort.

Saw in the comments your budget is up to $55k. Why not one a CPO of these:

2015 Audi S4 Prestige

2014 Infiniti Q50 Sport AWD

The Audi S4 could be found as low as $40k for a nice CPO example. The Infiniti could be as low as $32k for a nice CPO. Both would be plenty quick, comfy, look pretty good and have tons of warranty.
