Well, it’s one of those horrible ideas that is only mostly horrible *in practice*, but sounds so unimaginably shadetree-mechanic-on-meth that it’s horrifying regardless if it works.

And yet, if it corresponded to a move to lighter pistons/rods and a rebalance afterward, it could have a place in Insane Hotrodding On A Budget. Still cheaper than a purpose-built lightweight crank. The only place you’d be screwed is if the extra weight in the crank served some purpose in damping vibration.
