The 3800 Series II lives again, a new MAF fixed the issues. So far it hasn’t died over the last week and a half.
Unfortunately yesterday when it was 90 and humid, the HVAC blower motor committed seppuku and took its own life. Wonderful, this will be the third time I’ve had to replace this thing, at least I’m getting really quick at it.

Just buy a decent brand, not the cheapest one you can find.

Interestingly there seems to be little difference between the quality of AC Delco and the bottom of the barrel TYC brand parts, They all die after 2 1/2 to 3 years.

Wow, how are you burning them out that fast? Always on high?

No, not always on high, I dislike the noise that all the moving air makes. This car just loves eating up electronics. The rear defrost grid quit working last year, found the relay for it was melted into the power distribution panel, had to replace the entire panel.
JRapp: now as good as new again

The picture (and I realize it’s not of your car) doesn’t have the recall done.
Just got my wifes Monte Carlo back from the dealers to get the valve cover recall done, and part of that was removing the engine cover. My wife was pissed that it looks ugly now as you can see the actual engine.. I don’t know, I kind of like it better.
Anyways, the 3.8L in our 01 Monte Carlo is a piece of crap. At this point I’ve replaced all of the intake gaskets myself. Had the recall replace the front valve cover gasket, paid to replace the rear one, oil pan gasket, oil sender and some other gasket thing on the oil filter attachement, and it still seems to leak a bit.
And I can’t get rid of some code that trips the check engine light.. something emissions related, possible to do with either the charcoal canister or the pressure release valve thing.
Did replace the MAF as well, and it did help some other codes and stalling/hunting idle issues.. went through 3 different MAF sensors until I found one that worked. You get what you pay for.
