Because it’s just awful. the olympics should be full of sports sthat are enjoyable to watch, dressage, air rifle, golf, and field hockey are just so terrible to spectate.

Counterpoint: It’s not the first time the original has been overshadowed and replaced in general conversation with a later improvement. For example, Wite-Out. Not the original, but the only name I can recognise mechanically. The original was Mistake Out/Liquid Paper by Tipp-Ex.

So I claim that as Ice Hockey is superior it has claim to the title of “Hockey” and all others must be subject to classification whether it be “Field”, “Roller” etc.

Totally agree. I don't live in a hockey area, but sheer dollars, media coverage, and participation rates tell me that Ice Hockey wins this one, hands down. However, Water Polo would like a word with those horses...

No offense intended, having grown up in New England (Maine, to be precise), girls/womens field hockey was quite popular. Every public school had a team, much like every public school had a boys ice hockey team. Moved to Virginia, hardly anyone was familiar with ice hockey, much less field hockey, but lacrosse and soccer are exponentially more popular here.
