Where you were the lamest kid in class if you didn’t know how to draw it? Apparently everyone wasnt just into Suzuki. The thing that’s messing me up is how this doodle was so widespread before the internet and doesn’t have any real backstory of origin. Thought came up because I’m mini-hnnging over Suzuki Equators right now.
There was another variation of it as an infinite knot which may have been the original design but little kids turned it into an S, then tried to make it a fictional gang sign because 90's kids were ruff and tuff with their afro puffs, homeslice.
*The Lady of Rage (explaining the afro puffs reference).
OMG Snoop Dogg looks so young!!!
(Sorry, here’s the version with the “correct” backing samples that I bump on my drives).

The late 90's early 2000's were a dark time.

We never had JNCO in the UK. Looking at Google Image search, I’m very very glad.

Yea that was the craze of the skater and raver culture in the US in the 90s. At least in Oregon.
And while I don’t think these are exactly JNCOs in the video, it was this general crowd.
(And I didn’t realize the JNCO post above wasn’t part of this thread of comments.)

People always drew comparisons to the NC State logo in middle school, at least where I am.

I remember it too. Then I did a bit of Googling and found this video:
Nothing amazing, but it’s not too long and lists a few possible answers.

Not sure if its an S. more like a “random simple design that almost looks like a letter but people think everything can be explained and now we assume its a letter. :P” Which is fine cuz graffiti is awesome.

I once had a set of JNCO jeans with 32 in leg openings...I was also into “aggressive inline skating” for a period of about 3 months until I almost broke my hip. Man...I was a dumb teenager.

Wait, did you have the jeans at the same time as the inline skating phase?! I’m surprised “almost” was an available outcome!

Yes inline skating and ridiculously big jeans were a thing for a bit in the 90's.

Yet such a great time for car culture. Sure we had the terrible rice thing, but more people got into working on and being involved with cars than seems possible now. As I got my license in 2002, the explosion of lower end car modifications made it the perfect time for high schoolers and college kids with part time jobs to get into cars and working on them. We may be getting older now, getting married, and having families, but I’m sure that once our kids go off to college the rush for Type R’s, RX-7's, and the like will explode again... Just much less rice next time
