The body looks remarkably straight though.

He might not know, he’s in Brazil, if I remember correctly. That’s an XM right? I’m not very good with French cars either.

If that’s what it is, it was never imported into the US. However, from a quick GIS image search it appears some Citroen GS Pallas’s had different gas caps. Possible it’s a different year or something. I’m actually intrigued as to exactly what it is and what it’s doing here.

Looks more like a CX to me. The one bellow is a US spec.

No idea. Trailer had a Louisiana license plate. It was headed north towards Nashville though. Driver of the truck did not look like your typical Citroen enthusiast. He probably looked like you.

I’m gonna go with it’s a CX, doesn’t seem to match all the details of the GS. While it was never imported by Citroen themselves here, it seems people did import it. Given the condition it’s in, I’m gonna assume it wasn’t recently imported, so more than likely it’s a CX. I could be wrong, though.

You’re probably on the money. I just did a quick search to find the Pallas. Didn’t know where to start.

I probably would have started with the DS as that’s really the only Citroen I know and the only one I’ve seen in person in the US .

Yes, that one’s US spec with side marker lights.
About 1,000 were sold as grey market imports, a thing which could be done then.

It’s a US spec CX. The GS is a smaller car.

I cheated and went to Lane Motor Museum so I’ve seen all kinds of fun Citroens in the US.

Think Mercedes got pissed off and pushed for legislation to end that. I have seen some Euro-spec Mercedes of the same vintage in the junkyard. We never got the 500SEL or the 500SEC here, but a very few can be seen running around or waiting for the crusher.

The earlier ones (1975 to 1980 or so) were available with one of these as an option.
Don’t see them every day.

The CX came with a diesel engine as well. For a time (after the one above was produced) it was the fastest diesel production car in the world.

Citroen never sold them through their dealers, but there are a fair number of gray market imports.
