So I was in the bathroom earlier, which, naturally, means I had an idea:
First of all, what happens if you, say, fall off a cliff and survive, but your phone’s screen is shattered? How do you call for help now that buttons don’t exist? My proposal is to have an emergency 911 button under the battery lid, where it can’t be pressed by accident. That’s... that’s really it. That will save lives.

And second, what if you find somebody’s phone? It used to be where you could just open it up, find “home” or “mom” or something like “Brad <3" and call that one in order to help it find its owner. But now everyone has a lock screen, and your only hope is to post that you found it on Craigslist or something. So... Everyone should be able to assign one number to be accessible without unlocking the phone. “If found, press here to contact owner.” or something. I don’t know about other people, but I’d gladly try to return the phone before anything else. But the more complicated it is to do so, the more likely I am to throw away the sim card and put it on eBay.

So yeah. I just fixed cell phones for you. You’re welcome.

1 - find source of water. if it’s a river, follow it downstream where there will probably be civilization.

2 - sell it on craigslist after you wipe the data. feign ignorance when IMEI returns “stolen”.

The second is already taken care of with the emergency dialer feature. You can program contact numbers in.

We need automated cell phones that make calls all the time, whenever the phone feels it is necessary.

But then when it sends lewd text messages to your ex, can I sue the cell phone company or am I responsible because I didn’t have my hands on the phone at all times?

If your Iphone still works you can use Siri to make calls. Even if the screen is damaged. It’s iffy, but I’ve used it in a pinch.

Then that person can jump off it since s/he has a penchant for falling off stupidly.

If my screen breaks, I just open it up and use the inside screen like normal.

1. I never knew falling off a cliff was such an epidemic.... also get an otter box.

2. set your emergency contact info and the person can access that on the lock screen

You fixed nothing! You get nothing!

1) As Longbow said, you can use Siri on iPhones. I’ve asked Siri to dail 911 before to report accidents or reckless drivers while driving.

2) On iPhones, you can put your lost phone in lost mode and have it display a number and message for anyone who finds it. You can also reply to texts from the lock screen. Last time I found a lost iPhone at work, another coworker had texted the lost phone and I texted back to say that I found it and who I was leaving it with.

Used to be such a huge phone when it came out, now it’s tiny compared to everybody else’s.

My phone has an emergency call button on the lock screen. And with Prey, you can put a message on the screen if it is lost.

We recently had that happen in the park I work at. Someone fell down a 120ft cliff. We were trying to figure out where the cliff was and how she managed to fall down it. Turns out it wasn’t so much a cliff as just a really steep ravine, and she slid most of the way. When she got to the bottom somehow she managed to dial 911 on her cell phone. We’re still not sure how, because there’s no service at all at the top of the ravine, so I can’t imagine it’s any better at the bottom of it.

Also worth mentioning, my iPhone worked for a couple weeks with a completely shattered screen until I replaced it. When I say completely shattered, I mean it was actually very difficult to read anything on it, but the touch aspect still worked great.
