We have a rental behind the business that is currently being occupied by a family. There son recently turned 16 and got a last-gen (W body bruh) Grand Prix zip around in. The other day the car is brought back on a flatbed. I was like ahh shit what happened. Come to find out it was a flat tire. They had it bround back to the house on a flat bed for a flat tire.
When asked if he had a spare: “idk”
UPDATE: they had a tire repair shop COME OUT to the house to retrieve the flat and fix it.

It’s one thing if it actually didn’t have a spare, it’s a whole different ball game that they didn’t even check.

A friend of mien got a flat and had to be towed to a tire shop, but that’s because she has a Mini and they don’t have spares for some reason. Not even checking is just pathetic though....

Age 6 is young. I couldn’t even distinguish between a wheel and a tyre at that age.

My mother in law got a nail in her tire of her Sonata Hybrid a few weeks ago when she visited. There was no spare tire, no tools to remove the tire, and the “mobility kit” which is a junk air compressor and some of that nasty slime crap only advises you to drive for 1 mile in town, .5 miles highway.
Aggravating

I wasn't allowed to drive until I had changed the tire 3 times using the trunk equipment. This was good, since the only two flat tires I ever had were in sub-freezing temps and in the middle of the night. Muscle memory and safety standards go a long way.

Yep, that's how my car is, too. GM assumed people were going to roll around on run flats for the life of the car.

My boys won’t be driving until we’ve had tire changing practice multiple times. My father certainly never showed me; I learned by watching my brother. It probably would have been cheaper to pay the tow truck driver to change the tire. Of course, it may have been lacking a spare.

I was walking back from a chemical engineering class with two friends, and some how we got on the subject of cars. I think an e46 m3 drove past and I was gawking at it. I think I quoted the specs for the car and some how we got on the topic of engines and somehow in the conservation the girl says I don’t even know how many cylinders my car has. Keep in mind she’s a 4th year chemical engineer, who is actually going for her doctorate now, aka way smarter than me. I was like how do you not know how many cylinders your car has, to which she did retort with: well before I left for college my dad taught me how to check the oil and how to change a tire.

I feel that this sort of thing should be part of the test when you get your driver’s license.

these assholes are why runflat tires are a ‘thing’. I hate runflats.
The spare was probably flat, I bet the tow truck driver checked it first.

That’s a good one! I’ll have to remember that when my girls get to be that age.

Similar rule in my house. Had to use the knowledge one in an emergency.
Had a front blow out on a FWD car at highway speeds about 15 years ago. Haven't touched one of those shitty jacks since.

This is your rental? You need to raise their rent, because apparently they have far too much money.

I saw a newer Chrysler 300 with a flat outside of a job site. Guy and his girlfriend standing beside the car in bewilderment. A short time later a flat bed shows up and proceeds to begin loading the car onto the truck.
I drove past, visibly laughing, despite the fact that my tires were crap and I have no spare or compressor on board.
I could take the bus to buy a spare for less than the cost of a tow, push comes to shove. Not that I want to be the guy on the bus with a wheel tire combo on the parcel shelf.

My dad made me change the spare onto my first s10 blazer before i left the house the first time.
I helped him build the engine by hand from a bare block. I’d put customer’s tires on. He said that’s all great with a lift and an impact gun. Let’s see you do it on the ground with the tools in the truck.
I of course did fine but I was furious about changing it. Looking back it was great knowledge to have.

I can’t even either with some of these people. One of my friends thought that his engine was toast just because he needed a jump start. God help us all.

It’s a really great idea. I had to call dad to help the first time I got a flat, but the second time I knew just what to do. I’ll be doing the same with my girls.

roadside assistance is only $4/month on my insurance plan. and they will tow to the garage of your choice up to 100 miles away.
trust me this was worth it when i had my jaguar.
if i had no spare, i’d call the truck. of course, i really hope im never driving a car with no spare.

More than likely no spare in there, just the compressor and fix a flat. Id take the roadside assistance that I already pay for.

Ha, my dad is a mechanic so it’s all wrenching all the time my friend. He tries to only wrench AT work these days though. He’s getting older so he tries to keep it there and relax at home. But this is him doing a nice burn out from when I was a kid:
