With a bit of luck, I should be able to get my FTO through another annual test so I can spend another year thinking about what I might buy next.

Perhaps one of these?

Kinja'd!!!

There are a few around for around €9,000. Sadly the annual road tax would cost €1,391.

Or maybe one of these. You can even get diesel ones:

Kinja'd!!!

Or maybe one of these, complete with bubble rear window:

Kinja'd!!!

Or maybe I should be sensible:

The last one is awesome because of the panoramic sunroof and Hyundai is probably better than the others in reliability by far!

The Citroen does have the cool suspension tho

Life’s too short to drive an I30, even though they’re actually a very good alternative.

Or you can be somewhat sensible... but not quite as sensible as the Hyundai:

The Alfa Brera seems to fit in that list as well?

Or go crazy and get an RX-8. Or get an RX-8 and go crazy, that’s possible too.

H’mmm.

There are only about six in the country though so it would be quite a search!

Get around road tax and do the opposite of this . 520d with an M5 engine. (I originally saw an article about this in English now I can’t find it.

Exactly. It’s a car for those who care about nothing but sensibility. There’s nothing wrong with that, but like you said (and I agree) life’s too short for such decisions.

Definitely the RCZ or the C6, depending on what degree of usability you need. Or a Laguna Coupe, if you want to compromise between the two, though I don’t know how common they are over there.

Oh god get the C6 please. I’ll come and visit and buy beers if you do.

So the FTO might live on? Is there any way to simply stop the rust in the structural parts?

How much is the road tax on the others? If they’re diesels road tax would about be that much for all of these in the Netherlands. Yearly road tax on a diesel C6 would be €2116 here, €1188 for a gas V6. Scirocco 2.0 TDI: €1380, 2.0 TSI: €708

And please, please, no i30. You might as well give up and buy an Auris or Yaris. Like FSI said, life’s too short.

I second the Laguna Coupe. It even comes with the Nissan 350Z engine.

350Z engine? Try Espace engine.

Road tax changed for cars first registered after the 1st July 2008 from engine size (which discouraged diesels which usually had larger engines) to CO2 so we went from one of these tables to the other

All the C6s sold here are pre mid 2008 so the old rules apply.

I can get the rear chassis legs welded or replaced but there’s a point when it isn’t cost effective.

Yeah, it was used in the Espace too, but it really is a VQ35DE, which apparently can be mounted both transversely(Maxima, Espace etc.) and longitudinally(350Z, G35 etc.).

Same thing; Nissan VQ35DE . Tuning is different (less hp in the Renaults), but it’s the same engine. 350Z engine sounds better than Espace engine :)

Thanks for the info, I knew it could be mounted either way but I forgot the exact name of the engine. Your and duurtlang’s post came in at the same time lol.

In the Espace it’s probably got more torque for the higher weight of the car. The 350z’s engine note is very distinctive for me, I can actually hear the difference from other v6 powered cars.

That’s a nasty table. The annual tax chart for petrol cars tops at 618€/year in Finland. There’s a lot of extra for diesel cars but I’m not interested about those.

Here we care about the CO2 emissions or the total mass of the car. The displacement of the engine doesn’t matter.
